I picked up the lentil and turnip dish, the rapini side and a rapini side from Gia tonight. The photo of romanesco was blurry, so I didn’t post it. The rapini photo is half the portion.
Everything was fine, but not too special. I will try pastas another time.
They were out of puntarelle salad tonight, unfortunately.
I ordered the Burrata with Delicata Squash and Cranberries ($31), Fave e Cicoria ($16), Gnocchi with tomato, basil, chili and smoked ricotta ($19), Cavatelli e Coniglio with yellow tomato ragu, fennel seed and pistacchio breadcrumbs ($31), and Pollo with potatoes , artichokes and olives ($38) from Enoteca Sociale tonight. The 5 dishes came to around $154 after tax and before tip.
We liked everything I ordered. I called mid-afternoon and picked up the order around 5:40 pm. I will order from them again. They’re open daily at 5 pm.
Do you eat immediately outside of the restaurant when you pick up (I don’t think any fried food and bread in panzanella “survives” more than 5 minutes without losing a lot of “quality” and becoming pretty much inedible)
There is a park with benches next to the patio, so I could have eaten it there.
I ate the panzanella at home, it was still edible, and the bread was still crispy/ chewy.
I’m not bothered eating fried food 20 or 30 minutes later.
I’m not eating inside restaurants very often (once in the past 2.5 years) , so if there’s no room on the patio, as was the case tonight, and I want something fried, or panzanella, I get it to go.
Just curious - since covid is now endemic and the current situation most likely won’t change dramatically in many years/our lifetime, do you plan to go back to eat at restaurants in the future ?
Luckily, maybe, the service at the Bibs and Selected Restaurants in Toronto is usually friendly and accommodating
I’ve been getting into some charged discussions with some friends over whether a restaurant should offer take-out to people who are immune -compromised, if the customer is willing to accept the food might not be quite as fantastic as if it’s served moments after it’s been made.
A few restaurants in Toronto refuse to offer take-out to immune-compromised customers. I find it’s not accommodating, from my point of view.
There are, of course, plenty of other places to get take-out.
There’s one restaurant where I asked if I could have take-out, and the social media person said I should bring all my friends and family for a big group dinner inside their restaurant. After I had told her I could not dine inside.
I think there’s a spectrum that runs from artistic intent/chef’s intent to giving paying customers what they want.
Actinolite only does outdoor/backyard dining between May/June to October/November … and then they’ll switch back to indoor because of colder weather. If you are not interested in their 5-course $125 menu, on most Wednesdays and Thursdays they do offer a $55 neighbourhood menu (3-course I think) but this one you should call to check first before you go …
It’s been interesting to find out that quite a few of the Bib spots that once offered to take-out are unwilling to accomodate with take-out this spring.
