MICHELIN Guide to Kuala Lumpur & Penang 2025

Malaysia woke up to two new 1-MICHELIN-star restaurants when the MICHELIN Guide to Kuala Lumpur and Penang announced its 2025 list last Thursday, 14 Nov, in a glittering ceremony held at the Grand Ballroom of the swanky Mandarin Oriental Kuala Lumpur. Top chefs, hawkers and F&B personalities from Malaysia’s two premier cities converged at the annual event.

The two new 1-MICHELIN-star restaurants are both in KL: 5-month-old Molina brings Nordic flavors to Kuala Lumpur:

The other is exciting Modern-Thai spot, Chim by Chef Noom which elevates Thai cuisine in Kuala Lumpur to a whole new level altogether.

On top of retaining its 2-MICHELIN-star, Dewakan also won Malaysia’s first Green Star for its efforts in promoting use of sustainable produce.

Penang’s Beh Gaik Lean of her eponymously-named 1-MICHELIN-star Auntie Gaik Lean’s Old School Eatery, seen here with one of Penang’s new entrants, Christoph Girsch of his eponymously-named Austrian eatery, MICHELIN-Selected Christoph’s.

Wong Peng Yuan of Bib Gourmand-listed Cantonese roast meat eatery, Wong Mei Kee, makes the best Cantonese-style crackling-skinned roast pork (“siew yoke”) in Malaysia.

The glitzy ceremony was held in the Grand Ballroom of the Mandarin Oriental Kuala Lumpur.

Thanks! Nice list for my next visit to Malaysia!! I actually thought the two Michelin starred restaurants I visited in Shanghai last week were very good, so I have some faith in them!

Were you there as well, at the ceremony? How I miss the MO hotel, it would be reason alone to visit KL. That pool is amazing, the gym probably the best I’ve seen at a hotel, the food is wonderful and the staff so friendly.

Yes, I was - here I am (right at the back) with a part of Penang’s contingent.

You are right, MO’s staff are all-smiles and very attentive.

Totally forgotten about this, until a friend decided she’d send it to me. Trying the liquid nitrogen frozen macaron with peanut butter - from Skillet. Umm. :joy: :joy:
