I left 3-4 years ago, but my company still works with Delta.
Cathay earlier days used to be great. They even offer real ’ Claypot rice ’ from Hong Kong Yung Kee on their HK - NYC route…not to mention made to order ’ authentic ’ HK style Won-ton noodles with all the trimmings…yellowing chives, shrimp eggs etc!
However, SIA ,IMHO is head and shoulder above most and should be amongst the top 3 on earth. ( The others being Qatar, Emirates ANA or JAL ). When I flew from HK to Toronto via SF, they offered a choice of 2006 Dom Perignon or Krug Grande Cuvee to pair with the Caviar appetizer course…and allowed you to try both! Red wine include a very good vintage year Lynch Bages.
ANA from Tokyo to North America offers a 9 course Otsumami in both Business and first class. Wagyu, snow crab legs and braised Abalone Included.
For some reason, Asiana makes some glorious tasting soup for both their First and Business class. Best 'Tomato soup ’ tasted in my life was one served from Seoul to LA!! Amazing!!
The most surprising experience was to see Chateau D’Yquem being offered on Emirates. Sadly, they have since removed it.
However, from what I have heard, food-wise Air France La Premiere is simply amazing with Michelin 3* chefs like Emmanuel Renaut, Oliver Chaignon and Dominique Crenn design the menu and creating the dishes! My next to-do list?!
Anyone have any input on the food served on SAS?
Pickled herring and fermented shark
Cool. I love pickled herring! But I’ll save the fermented shark for when (if?) we get back to the US and send it to you
SAS is an airline that is on my radar for future travel, so I’ll be interested as well.
They’re part of the Star Alliance, so we can get miles even tho we’re not doing United this time.
As long as they deliver it on the roof of the delivery vehicle, I’m good
Noice
Food and service were not memorable on SAS, which we flew last year for the first time. Everything was efficient, though. This was in coach class.
I flew London to Oslo and they offer some really good Gravlax on rye as well as North Sea sweet shrimp open sandwiches.
On longer routes, they occasionally serve ’ Reindeer Stew in Red Wine '…a touch too gamy for my taste!
We’re a notch up & hopeful it’s similar to United Premium Plus
Premium plus is always worth the extra points or cash for long haul.
Oh, absolutely. Unfortunately, it looks like we won’t be able to afford something like that for our planned trip to HK at the end of this year, when it would really be helpful!
Never say never How long is the flight to HK, and how many stopovers?
24 hours, one stopover. The $$$ is the bigger hurdle, TBH.
At my age , I couldn’t do that even on premium economy
Yeah. It’s always been the plan to visit when our dear buddy is around to show us all the good places, and he’s spending one final teaching gig there, but… TBH if Ima fly that long I’d rather take my PIC to Thailand
Why not work both into the itinerary? I did that in the 80’s when fly was almost a pleasure on Cathey Pacific.
