I don’t want to cram too much into one vacay — although it’s certainly tempting to only have one very long flight (well, two — still gotta come back). We’ll see. It’s early yet.
Not about the food but SAS over the last two years has screwed up so many flights (if they weren’t canceled last minute by them and caused a few days of chaos) from us, family, friends etc that I am surprised they are still in business - sorry for the not-food related rant, please continue with the regular program
Best to fly EVA Air to Taipei. About 13 hours from Toronto. Layover of about 2 hours…enough time to stretch your legs, eat a bowl of famous Braised Beef Noodles or some XLB steamed dumplings…before another 2 hours flight to Hong Kong.
BTW, service and food of EVA is way better than North American airlines and even Cathay Pacific!!
A 13 hour flight and a two hour stopover is pretty good, especially when you can grab a bowl of noodles whilst waiting for your next flight
I have trouble choosing a layover over a non-stop flight when one is available (eg Cathay to HKG).
Sometimes it’s a better choice for folks who have to take a stopover no matter what, because they can prioritize flight quality.
I have taken the 16 hour direct flight from Toronto to Hong Kong on Cathay before. However, even with a lie-flat seat/bed, that 16 hours was quite a ’ tough challenge '!
Nowadays, finding flights with a ’ short ’ layover…to stretch my legs and do some browsing and eating in transit terminals…etc has been my preferred option. So far, I have tried Air Canada to Tokyo then onto Hong Kong; Air Canada to San Fran and then SIA from SF to HKG and lastly EVA Air from Toronto to Taipei then Taipei to HKG. Ever since they started using the 787 -10 Super Dream Liner, EVA is my now preferred option. The direct flight Cathay Pacific using the new Airbus 350-1000 was pretty fine too, However, I find Cathay’s seats to be a touch narrower than both EVA or SIA or even Air Canada!
I’m accustomed to 14-16h direct to/from India for many years now.
The few extra hours for 18h direct to Singapore damn near killed me at the end – and reminded me why I hate connecting flights to India once the non-stops became an option: the last bit is just being awake and done with it and wondering “are we there yet?” on loop
No hand-wringing here. We’ll always take a non-stop – too-many-to-count business trips has always informed personal/pleasure travel. Getting there is Task One, the only one. Dispensing with the risk of problems at the connection hub and with the connecting flight outweighs any in-flight “amenities”, regardless the carrier . . . and we’re among the school who say that the journey is part of the holiday. That said, SQ and CX have never disappointed.
Same here
MEX-YYZ , AC, on “business class”, which is more like business lite or premium economy +.
Started off with a Campari and soda with some warm nuts, lunch was "honey, ginger, sesame chicken ,Shandong flat noodles, carrots, bok choy(not a single bok in sight) and edamame, carrot cake and salad with the ever obligatory balsamic dressing(why can’t airline caterers mix things up a bit??)
Meal was decent, no sriracha or chili crisp offered for the entree which def would have helped.
7/10 for the food an these flights. Worth the $300 upgrade(return)? Not for the food , but for the other conveniences, def yes.
What is “MEX-YYZ , AC”? Something going to Mexico on Air Canada?
Mexico City to Toronto (yyz) on Air Canada.
Chicken or pasta? The question from hell.
I think I chose wisely
No prices–is this included in lounge membership?
Surprisingly attractive looking menu choices!!
