McDonald's in General

That Buttonwillow McD’s is the only one where I’ve seen a McFeast. This was back in the mid-70s, and it was a pretty large patty (maybe a third of a pound?) with what looked almost like a salad on it. They offered it for a few years. On school trips to LA, the bus would stop in Buttonwillow for food and bathrooms (probably because there were several fast food places within a couple hundred yards, so 50 kids could scatter, eat, and be back on the bus in half an hour) and the McFeast was top of mind for some of us.

I can’t remember the last time I ate at a McD’s in the States.

I haven’t had a bad meal at a Canadian McD’s in a very long time. I didn’t eat at McD’s much between 2016 and 2019.

In 2019, a 24 h McD’s opened near my apartment in Toronto. I visited a couple times in 2019 and 2020, late at night.

My last McD’s meal in 2020 was an Egg McMuffin in rural Alberta on my way from Jasper to Calgary, on my last ski trip the last day of Feb 2020.

I didn’t eat at McD’s again until I ordered a Quarter Pounder with Cheese at a drive thru in London, Ontario, in the spring of 2021.

In 2021 and 2022, a lot of independent restaurants in Toronto cut back on their hours. If I needed a light meal around 9:30 pm, I was visiting Eataly (the Eataly closes at 10 pm), a chain pub (the kitchen closes at 10 pm), or McD’s (24 h kitchen).

I have probably ordered food or drinks at McD’s 25 times a year since 2022, around 2 meals a month, mostly through drive thru. I am keeping track this year!

It is possible McD’s are better in Ontario right now.

One McD’s in Detroit where I stopped to use the ladies’ room in the summer of 2018 was not one of McD’s more welcoming locations. I felt bad for the staff and the customers.

My local Mcd’s(TO/Canada) is very consistent and clean, is it as good as it once was and is the value for $$ as good, nope but nothing is these days.

Like I said, I can only comment on the ones in the states-- most specifically New York City. I have not had a quality experience in a NYC location in so long, I can’t remember. The one near work (close to high schools, universities, multiple court houses, borough hall and office space with multiple transit stops close by-- and next to a major department store) was so filthy, unsafe and poor quality that it was shut down. A true Mcdonald’s rarity. But with so many other options nearby, no one cares.

NYC McD’s are a special kind of nasty. The one in my old neighborhood (Sunnyside, Queens) was an absolute travesty of filth - and that was before Covid. But they’ve definitely gone downhill everywhere in recent years.

One of The Worst Restrooms I have ever encountered in my entire life was in '97 at a McD’s in downtown SF. The fact that I remember this should tell you all you know.

Also, I cannot fathom wasting even one meal on a FF chain living in a city with

I go to McDs, Wendy’s and Popeye’s (FC sandwich) usually while traveling or when that’s the best option. The logic is the food, ultraprocessed, should be safer from gastrointestinal issues, while traveling. Despite the poor reviews of some McD’s, probably still safe but first option is now Wendy’s. I avoid most ultra processed food…but traveling is an exception. One meal won’t do much harm. The logic of not getting sick while traveling is sound imo.

I earn my crumb on the road in outside sales.

By definition I end up eating FF far more often than I’d like.

McD is literally my last resort, and every time I reach for that lifeline I am disappointed (and sometimes physically unwell).

Everything is better in Canada.

Especially the Cold Brew Mocha Freeze at Costco.

Many things are much better in the States!

Crab cakes, cheesesteaks, cheesecakes, chiles rellenos, enchiladas suizas, mission burritos, fish tacos, babka … I could go on and on and on.
