McDonald's in General

I’ve not tried a fish sandwich from any other fast food outlet. Sometimes I try and make one at home but nothing beats the steamed Filet o fish bun at McDonald’s cushioning the square filet and square slice of plastic cheese.

What is NSFW?

I have been known to get two filets, but on one bun and always without the “cheese”.

I recently had the fish sandwich at Popeyes which was different and good. I think it might be seasonal.

Tried a panko fish sandwich at Wendys yesterday. Very, very crunchy, although the fish was a little thin. Not too bad, but i was starving (4pm and I hadnt had lunch) so the wrapper would have tasted good. Lol

Culvers has walleye during Lent…it was disappointing. They used to have a nice thick filetz but these were small and thin and buried in beer batter. At $16 for the dinner Ill pass (I love walleye, so I look forward to this every year. I hope next year is better)

Im super fortunate to live where a fried grouper sandwich is a local specialty…usually thick filet, lightly battered, on a bun with a slice of local tomato and lettuce. My all time favorite sandwich, although not typically fast food.

I tried my first fried grouper sandwich on my only visit to Florida , back in Jan 2015! It was delicious. We stopped at a fish place somebody recommended on Chowhound.

This is how I feel about McDonalds in general. If I’m craving a cheeseburger I don’t think of McDonalds for them, but I might be craving “McDonalds cheeseburger” if I’m hungry and in a rush and in front of McDonalds. It’s its own food.

I’m with you. Grouper is fantastic. Looking forward to going to the Georgia coast next week!

I was in the vicinity of the local McDonald’s yesterday and so I decided to grab lunch to bring back home. Went with my usual - filet of fish - and side of fries and nuggets (4 piece). Fries are an occasional treat, even though they do a suffer a bit with take out, but I can’t recall the last time I had nuggets. They tasted better than I remember, but the sauce was terrible.

The filet o’ fish - wow, hit by the shrink ray! This sandwich is now no bigger than the palm of my hand, and I have small hands. This is about the same size as sandwiches you get at the Hong Kong or Japan McDonalds. Probably not a terrible thing considering its health/nutrition profile, but value doesn’t seem to be there for only so-so food.

McDonald’s has not been very value oriented for a while. It’s hurt them and they are trying to figure out a way back.

I hadn’t had one in years, but I got two Filet-O-Fishes this weekend and they were quite good, but yeah seemed small (extra pickles). The App had a 50% off deal, so it was like $7 for two, which seems about right. I couldn’t imagine paying $14 for two of them at regular price.

I know! They are a little over $6 at regular price at my local McDs. They didn’t offer the twofer, but the free french fries (the only reason I got the fries too). I don’t know if I would pay those prices otherwise unless there was no where else to eat.

Haven’t tried in years. Used to get them at an “independent” donut place. Perhaps one of the supermarket bakeries does them. I will now have to go on a quest … for science of course. :face_with_monocle:

I had a Filet-O-Fish for lunch, and there were no pickles!

I always thought the pickles were in the tartar sauce; guess I wasn’t paying attention. Wouldn’t be the first time

I’ve never had one with pickles, that I can remember, but that just might be a Canadian thing, eh
