Your dad has obviously unlocked the mystery to a long and healthy life.
I wish we had mango McSwirls in the US.
The music died in 1990. The fries, while still plenty good, have never been scrumptious since tallow was removed from the frying medium.
Meanwhile, https://www.steaknshake.com/seed-oils/
I got some at Popeyes the other day, and they didn’t seem that different from other ff fries, maybe a little crisper.
I wonder if they turfed the tallow?
OMG, the seed oil hysteria has reached the corporate level.
Dumb-ass reason, but tastier end product
There are no Steak n Shakes anywhere near me, even in adjoining states. There was one in the entire state, but it closed. Oh well.
Do a search on how McD’s prepares their potatoes with pesticides for perfect french fries without blemishes. There’s a video with Michael Pollan. Beef tallow or tallow flavored oil is relatively minor in comparison. I won’t post the spoiler here.
Wait are you saying those are industrially produced and treated, and possibly not good for us? /s
*After hearing so many folks touting those aMAZing fries I snagged one from a friend a few years ago. It was fresh out of the fryer, so it was crispy, hot, and salty.
Afterwards my mouth felt and tasted like the fry had been fried in vaseline.
I honestly don’t get it.
Way back in the day McD’s fries were pretty good but lately they have gotten relatively bad. I quit eating fries at most places years ago, now i either switch to tots, (which are probably even less healthy) or just leave the fries on the plate/tray.
I made the mistake of saying “i don’t like your fries” exactly once. Now they just get tossed in the trash.
A good fry is a thing of beauty. FF is not going to deliver that.
I save my fries eating for French places that make proper steak frites, and a local place that makes excellent skin-on thin fries (I have no idea what oil/fat they use).
If you ever get a chance to visit the potato museum in Blackfoot Idaho, it’ll blow your mind, maybe.
As far as perfect french fries at Mickey Dee’s I never had a ‘blemish free’ bag; there was alway one or two in there. My biggest complaint about their fries was that the bag contained maybe three or four decent sized fries on top and the rest were small pieces underneath.
Please stop spreading fake news.
Interesting. I notice that Canada and other countries from which they source are not specifically mentioned, but they say it is not used on “their” potatoes. I assume they mean all of them, but hard to tell. They do say this in the article “While we know Monitor is not used in the UK, EU and US, we have not been able to verify whether it could be in use anywhere else in the world. We have asked McDonald’s about this and will update this fact check when we hear back.”
You remind me of something my dissertation advisor once said to me.
- If you torture the data enough, it will eventually say anything you want it to

Yes. I agree it definitely sounds like they are trying to cover up the fact that they still use Monitor.
I will see if I can taste it in my next order.
Five Guys posts the name of the farm where they get their potatoes…theirs are cut anddouble-fried, skin ans all, on site.
But IME they are almost always floppy, never crispy.
