McDonald's in General

It’s one of the better soft-serve options here locally. And at least it tastes of something. It’s a nostalgic snack that sends me back to pregnancy cravings.

Fightin’ words! Everyone who I know who likes them thinks they beat no resemblance to proper barbecue. They’re their own thing.

Me, I’m not a fan. But I love that they are a phenomenon/trend that people get excited about. Kind of like the Shamrock Shake. We all need some fun culinary events in life. :joy:

Growing up, bolonga was slapped between two slices of Kilpatrick’s white bread, sometimes with a schmear of French’s yellow mustard, cut in quarters and tucked into a nice little waxed paper bag and placed into the Roy Roger and Dale Evans metal lunchbox. Every day. Later, it was mayo and mustard and lunch in a paper bag. Totally skipped the yearly plastic lunch box craze. Even later, the addition of iceberg lettuce and a few Del Monte dill slices were added to the sandwich that would never see a lunch box or bag, strictly table service at home. It had to be Capri brand bolonga. To me, no bolonga tastes like the old Capri, Del Monte doesn’t make those pickles, Kilpatrick’s is long gone and I pine over the memory of tastes gone by. French’s mustard is still out there! Memories.

Yeah, me too!

Plus, the last bite of the soft serve cone, where the ratio of vanilla soft serve to cake cone is a near perfect 1:1 ratio, is one of the single best bites of food in all of the food-a-verse.

Thanks.

Reviews for Duke’s “Sandwich Relish” are universally good… with many mentions by Best Foods fans switching to Duke’s after they could no longer find the BF brand. Most found it the best replacement out there… with some actually liking it better and others not as much.

Ingredients are similar with the exception of sugar (BF) vs corn sweetener, and BF using lemon juice and mustard (absent from Duke’s). My pref for mayo is BF because of the lemon.

Guess I’ll just have to try a jar (too bad shipping is twice the price of that jar). )c:

Sandwiches on white bread wrapped in waxed paper have a special place in my heart. I still make them for picnics that way - meatloaf with ketchup, liverwurst with onions and mayo, olive loaf with mayo, ham with butter, thickly sliced roasted chicken breast with mayo…usually with sweet gherkins and a small bag of chips per person.

I went for soft serve at McDonald’s and they didn’t have any (so often the case; that machine must be a huge PITA to clean or something). I got vanilla and strawberry shakes instead and they were awful. Sickeningly sweet and didn’t seem to be made from ice cream of any sort.

The dotter has a technique for slowly filling the cone in stages, tapping is eve so gently to get it to settle the soft serve to the very bottom, like you have. In addition she can build the ‘Empire State Building’ of soft serve , again very carefully, to a height of over 12 inches. And being a bad-ass Iron (Wo)Man she can eat it all, too. In the old addage, 'The Apple Doesn’t Fall Far From The Tree", we’ve always wondered about the orchard with this one; she’s not ‘from around here’.

Ditto with those ‘Shamrock Shakes’. Add that one to the ‘vile’ list!
