Getting close.

We all have our time and cultural references. I try to keep up with the names for the generations after mine, but I cannot define GenX or Millennial or Y or Z or…I think “Old Fart” is dismissive despite the generation you’re from. I think “Young Fart” is equally applicable. I learn from previous and newer generations myself. But I think it’s natural to be nostalgic for certain things you remember as pleasurable while you travel through life.

Where I’m from, Old Fart is used almost exclusively when referring to oneself so self-deprecating but not dismissive.

Also far too much thought for a comment intended 100% for a laugh.

Too much thought? What’s that? Who decides?

I probably shouldn’t wade into this mess, but what the heck.

“We all have our time and cultural references. I try to keep up with the names for the generations after mine, but I cannot define GenX or Millennial or Y or Z or”.

I agree.

But when it comes to the term OF’s. I silently or only to my husband refer to older people like that. And I’m sure others say the same about us. As long as we keep it to ourselves and don’t say it out loud in public, nothing wrong with that.

I’m in the middle of a long visit with my mother who is 91. She teaches me perspectives about life that I would never experience or know. She’s been through a lot, and still has a sharp mind and isn’t shy about sharing her opinions. I’m lucky to still have her in my life. I think she came from the Greatest Generation.

It doesnt matter. Its no longer funny

It never was.

I meant that I’m getting close or catching up to your year.

Getting back to the McRib …

I dont know whats going on with you, but I can 100% guarantee that being dismissive and rude wont make it better.

I hope today is better for you.

Thanks. I have the weight of a very fragile and very old mother on my shoulders - we caught Covid in mid-September during her visit with me and I’ve been holding my breath hoping I can get her home to Ohio from New England all in one piece. It’s daunting. We’re flying out of Providence on Tuesday. Sorry I’ve been disagreeable on this forum.

A disagreement in another forum earlier this week caused me to leave a group to which I had contributed a lot. The environment turned toxic quickly. There was a comment I made, in which I tried to change the direction of the comments, and it backfired.

Some of us spend time online and on HO when we’re escaping from what is going on around us in the rest of our lives.

I know I post more when I’m upset about something else.

It’s a really hard time for many people right now.

I know you’ve been unwell lately and dealing with a lot.

I know I’ve been dealing with a lot. I know so many awful things that have been happening to people I know lately.

My friend told me to try to read an email or text, or comment, in its best possible light.

Assume people are trying to be nice. Or maybe they just enjoy chatting.

Cut them slack when they come across as cranky. Cut yourself slack if you have a cranky day and aren’t yourself.

If a HO is annoying you, mute them. Sometimes they’re having a bad day, or they just are on a different wavelength.

Life is too short to be fighting over stuff like this.

We have bigger fish we should be frying. We need to save our energy for frying those fish.

KURT VONNEGUT:
I went out to buy an envelope ~ Oh, my wife says, well, you’re not a poor man, You know, why don’t you go online and buy a hundred envelopes and put them in the closet? And so I pretend not to hear her. And go out to get an envelope because I’m going to have a hell of a good time in the process of buying one envelope.
I meet a lot of people. And, see some great looking babes. And a fire engine goes by. And I give them the thumbs up. And I ask a woman what kind of dog that is. And, and I don’t know. The moral of the story is, is we’re here on Earth to fart around.
And, of course, the computers will do us out of that. And, what the computer people don’t realize, or they don’t care, is we’re dancing animals. You know, we love to move around. And, we’re not supposed to dance at all anymore. ~ Kurt Vonnegut 100%

Love Kurt Vonnegut. He lived on Cape Cod for many years, not far from where we are. Tomorrow is my 43rd wedding anniversary. I have this image on a card to give to my dear husband

Not to sound like the old fart that I am :upside_down_face:, but manners and civil discourse have gone down the toilet since the advent of the internet. People behave like absolute savages when they’re not engaging in a real life, direct encounter. The level of rage is absolutely insane.

@retrospek I’m so sorry to read about that. Definitely coming from recent caregiver duties for a terminally ill mother, I know how heavy that burden is. I hope you and your mother are able to make it back and get strong and healthy again.
