McDonald's in General

Have you tried it?

Have you had a Newfie-fried Bologna sandwich? Fried Bologna as a breakfast meat with eggs is a thing in Newfoundland, too.

Oh for sure. I love me some good fried bologna with huevos!

This is like the poorman’s version of the McDonald’s sausage egg McMuffin.

Lots of places fry bologna but I’ve never seen it with potatoes and gravy

I had mine with toutons. Like this https://www.tripadvisor.ca/LocationPhotoDirectLink-g182153-d764385-i129710267-Country_Kitchen-Gander_Newfoundland_Newfoundland_and_Labrador.html

The make or break for a fried or cold bologna sandwich for me was Best Foods Sandwich Spread. Unfortunately that is gone, which drops the sandwich a significant notch for me.

Were the toutons pan fried, deep fried, or … ?

(I just went down a Wiki-hole reading about them.)

The ones I had were deep-fried. I only spent around a week in Newfoundland! I hope to go back!

Oklahoma prime rib

Falukorv in Sweden, associated with the Falun Copper Mine and originally made with ox meat, is today very similar to ring bologna. It may appear in many dishes including stroganoff in place of beef or on the Julbord, which typically includes lots of sausages.

I’ve have bought the Angus Beef bologna by Prima Della at WM several times. Makes good sandwiches, cold or fried, but pretty salty.

Duke’s makes a Sandwich spread. I think you can order it directly from them. Bologna sandwiches need sandwich spread. Otherwise, the only use for bologna is to wrap a fried piece around a kosher hot dog. ( I think that’s a deli-only phenomenon)

Have you compared Duke’s to the now discontinued Best Foods brand? I ask as I have tried a number of others and they were gross.

No, because there’s no Best Foods brand anything where I live. Sorry.

I have no idea why my Pittsburgh cousins have never served me this sandwich! https://www.thekitchenwhisperer.net/2014/02/05/grandmas-pittsburgh-fried-bologna-sandwich/

I haven’t seen that in years in our local groceries. It’s what I would buy years ago.

Real berries or just ‘sauce’?

I wouldn’t expect real ribs. Didn’t back in the day, either.

Don’t remember any berries. Sauce was chocolate. Real Kit Kat bar.

I see now, the sundae sauce is chocolate, the sundae ice cream is strawberry flavored. Duh🙃

I usually order something custom so it’s made freshly. No onions, typically. Trick I learned from my mom.
