Nothing planned for dinner, and I’m going to take advantage of my “free” half board for lunch.
Spent some of the morning at the Museo Carmen Thyssen Málaga and a couple of hours doing laundry
I’ll probably just wander the streets later and grab a bite somewhere touristy and maybe catch a flamenco show.
How was Pizza Pronto the other day?
Tomorrow is dinner at La Cosmopolita!! Can’t wait
It was Alma Nomad instead for focaccia and pain au chocolate.
Will do Pizza Pronto another day.
Doing Humo Pollos a la Brasa by Jhosef Arias (Peruvian spit roast chicken and arroz chaufa) on Friday because I have to shop at El Corte Inglés on Goya. And maybe a pisco or two (this is after shopping, of course.
This week the Peruvian embassy is sponsoring the “The Route of the Peruvian Tapa and Ceviche”: 1 Peruvian tapa, 1 ceviche tapa, 1 Peruvian beer, 1 Pisco Sour, all for 12 euros. No available at Humo, but later on I can go and grab this special deal at Triperito in the Mercado de la Paz.
Flamenco: I would go to Kelipé at Muro de Puerta Nueva 10, near the Thyssen. 90-minute performance at 8 pm.
Cost: 28 euros.
Don’t grab a bite a somewhere super, super touristy! That would make me sad!
The chef of La Cosmopolita recommends grabbing a bite at El Yerno inside the Mercado (my friend Azahar of Sevilla Tapas does too, and yours truly).
Or for a time warp, one of the oldest bodega/tabernas in the city, Antigua Casa de Guardia, from 1840. A classic for Málaga sweet wines.
Booked!! Gracias!
Lunch downstairs at Matiz again, was getting a bit late after my self serve laundry adventure and it’s right there.
Today’s salad was much much better, avocado, cherry tomatoes, spring mix, red onion and various nuts.
The entree was grilled chicken and potatoes, perfectly fine and hit the spot.
I added the half board menu for your viewing pleasure. It’s a good menu if all you want is simple food and don’t want to venture too far.
I may skip dinner, and just enjoy the flamenco show
SALAD!!!
Yuge salad! Huzzah
Dinner and a show.
The flamenco show was great, it let out around 9:30 so I wandered around deciding on whether I should eat or not. Every restaurant was rammed, just like the streets so I figured some ice cream would hold me over until the morning

A scoop of dulce de leche and a scoop of Stracciatella
Yay!! My first non scrambled eggs from the buffet downstairs!

As most of you know, scrambled eggs from a buffet are usually pretty terrible, so I asked the lovely server if I could get some fried eggs, bingo boingo, breakfast is served! I should have asked for them from the beginning

Plus I finally figured out how to make my coffee the way I like it from the automatic coffee machine.
A regular cafe latte with a shot of espresso, two sets of these and I’m ready for anything!!
Enjoy your lunch at La Cosmopolita!
Dinner actually, no plans for lunch yet, I’m going to stroll down the beach and see if there’s anything that catches my eye
Another beautiful, scorching hot day in Malaga so I’d figured I’d stroll down to Malagueta beach for some sun and food.
Nothing was opened yet, but by the time I walked around the beach, some places started to open up.
I chose Chiringuito El Chachalote for no other reason than it was open and they were kind enough to seat me without a reservation and they had beer and fried baby squid

Ordered a beer, pimientos asados, enough for 2-3 people to share and tasty.
Some puntillitas “special “ , which the waiter told me were larger and better quality

€28, not cheap for lunch but you’re paying for the view and location and the quality of the food and service was spot on.
It’s too bad that I missed sardine season, but maybe another time.
Also some gratuitous shots of beach life.
You did well! El Cachalote is a classic Malagueta chiringuito, probably less expensive than Merendero Antonio Martín, the other classic.
It was very good, and every table was booked but they were still seating people as long as they knew that they had to give up the table at certain time. I mean, why not get a few more bums in the seats before the actual reservations show up?
I’m glad I took advantage of the situation instead of schleping another 30-40 minutes down the beach to get something that may be better . I am a man of convenience
Cerveza! Fried food! Peppers! You got the Spanish trifecta for lunch
All looks wonderful, the squid in particular!
Ya, the squid was really tasty, didn’t even need any aioli, just a squeeze of lemon. I was worried that because it’s so close to the city centre, that it might be all show and no go but it was surprisingly good!! There was another chingurito even closer to the city, but it looked to be 2X the price and a bit more boujee for this low brow
A little afternoon treat in the shade, really hot but a wonderful breeze blowing through the city.
Dinner tonight at La Cosmopolita
I love puntillitas. Andalucía, the pescaíto frito paradise!
Question for you.
Do you know if there is a meal served on the train, confort class, from Malaga to Madrid on Saturdays?
Very difficult to find answers on Renfe’s website.
I figured you have probably taken this route before.
Not a big deal if not, I can grab a sandwich and a sweet from La Canasta the morning of.
