Such a fun spot with excellent food!

Whatever pup, talk to me when you’re my age

Ok, boomer

Soooo good :+1:t2:. I just saw that they sell it by the 6 pack at a local market, I wonder if it’s as good as the draught?

No, unfortunately not, the draught is just the best. You had the Mahou in a bottle and while I can’t remember exactly I did not see any branding on the draught itself. But my guess is it could very well be Mahou as well? It tasted different, right?

Tis the season for braising, I might see if I can get my hands on some oxtails, but prices are through the roof lately, if you can even find them.

But… is it better than Superbock???

You’ll have to come to Spain and try it, only way to know for sure. And you’ll have to try both the bottle and from the tap.

I think Mahou goes very well with tapas, and Spanish dishes. But i would have to rank it several hundred places below the best beer in the world…

To me at least, the uniqueness of this beer is not necessarily its taste. It’s not full or unique in flavour, like for example some Belgian beers or IPAs can be. The beauty of this draught beer is in the mouthfeel the foam gives, followed by this clean citrus-y taste that’s just really invigorating. It’s like a pick me up beer. Now I want a beer! (but I’m drinking seltzer with vodka!)

I had the bottle the first day, then everything else was from the tap, but you’re right, I didn’t see any branding on the taps I just assumed that it was Mahou.

Definitely agree with this description and probably why it goes well with heavier dishes in Spain like tortilla, torreznos, guisos etc.

I can’t remember if Valencia is part of this trip but the oxtail stew at Patapuerca Taberna Iberico (Cebro branch) is among the best I’ve had in Spain.

Went to Valencia last trip, this time it’s Malaga. I loved Valencia and could happily retire there, or Madrid.

La Catapa has Mahou on tap (branded), as do others in the Retiro district. Miguel Ángel also has rabo on the menu, rabo de toro guisado al vino tinto and arroz meloso de setas y rabo de toro.
Neither would be an evening dish for me!!! So very filling!

La MonterĂa, also in the Retiro district, serves rabo deshuesado.

Agree, the half portion for lunch was just perfect, but I probably could have eaten the full portion :pig::sweat_smile:
Gonna try to keep it light for dinner tonight at La Montiera .

That´s gonna be hard!!! :joy:
Especially if a game dish is on the menu!
La Montería≠light!
But I’m sure you’ll try! :joy:
You’re a pro! :grinning:

Dinner at La Monteria
Navajas prepared simply with garlic and olive oil on the plancha
Tartar de Bonito
Dessert- Hojaldre con manzana-apples in puff pastry?
No English menu, and Google translate was hilarious  but I got the gist.
Also had a couple glasses of delicious white wine, Eidosela Alberino, that I’ll try to find back home, but I won’t hold my breath.
Dinner and service was very good, but nothing mind blowing :exploding_head:. Lot’s of regulars, families with kids and a buzzy vibe. Packed to the rafters so I’m glad I made reservations, even though they gave me a not so great table. Uber-ed there but walked back to the hotel, twas a lovely evening for a stroll

We ate our weight in grilled (and tinned) navajas while in Barcelona too long ago. Sofa king good :star_struck:
