We are heading to a wedding in Newport on Friday and we’d love to stop for some lobster rolls for lunch. Last time, we stopped at Abbot’s and weren’t 100% thrilled with it. Plus, they are pretty far off 95. Any thoughts?
Where are you starting from to get to Newport?
Southern Westchester.
ctbites.com is a great resource and they did a story recently of ct. lobster “shacks”. give them a looksee. If you use the “search” there (enhanced by google). the 2024 article was about 80 places for lobster so some may be closer to 95 rather than waterfront only. enjoy (I’m jealous)
All the way up in Narragansett and I haven’t been in a few years … But we really enjoyed it! (Recent reviews still look good.)
On 95 in CT, we’ve only stopped at Lenny’s in Branford. I think my husband has had the lobster roll there but I can’t recall. We’ve probably eaten there 3-4 times and have always left happy. But honestly, that stretch of 95 is scary to me (my brother lives in Mamaroneck and my SIL lives in Greenwich so we’ve done that drive many times from Boston and RI), especially since you are traveling on a holiday and trying to make it to a wedding in Newport, which will be hectic on the 4th. Could you find your lobster roll during the weekend? The best lobster roll I’ve had in that area is at Anthony’s in Middletown but you don’t go for the ambience (you’re basically eating under a tent in a parking lot).
Heading home on Sunday, I presume. Do not pass go, stop only for emergencies, as you probably know. Or take your time, find your lobster shack and let the traffic subside.
I just remembered @BKeats thread from a couple of years ago. Maybe there is something that might interest you? Connecticut shoreline eats summer 2023
Haven’t seen @BKeats in a while around here. Hope he’s ok.
