Lima! Is a good place to visit if you like food

How old are you people?

Same idea as curry chips with your cod or haddock at a proper chipper.

It doesn’t come up often. I haven’t eaten meat since 1979, except by accident - oh, that’s NOT a falafel ball? Whoops!

Well I’m old enough to have college graduate child but not old enough to be eligible for social security

it seems prices have risen a tad since you were there, the same dish is now $16 usd. @Ziggy you may want to take note.

 Did the dollar tank that much in three years? Glad I went when I did!

the tasting menu at maido was $140 eight months ago according to this website: https://nomadicfoodist.com/maido-lima-peru/ now, it seems to be $386: https://maido.pe/en/menu/

it’s not just the dollar tanking, the price was 559 soles, now it’s 1295 soles.

Holy cow. Maybe Lima just figured out they were under-charging?

My oldest recently came back and said things werent as cheap as she thought

Swooning over this…have not been in Peru in many years…would Lima be good just to wander (solo) and eat for a week…?

About those sea cucumbers; Come to Catalonia! They were on many menus last week in Barcelona and I’m sure throughout the region… They command a high price in restaurants and at MONT BAR they featured them in a ā€œCarbonaraā€
with Joselito (premier label) jamon and black truffles.

Which got me wondering. This photo was taken in the big fish market in Seoul, where I could not read any of the signs. These might be the same critters that Lima fisherman was taking out of the sea (???(. If not, does anyone know WHAT these are???

Warning: The following photo may be dangerous to those suffering from castration anxiety:

I think so. There’s a lot to see and do (and eat). There were some neighborhoods I felt a little less than comfortable, but I’m sure your radar is as good as mine.

That Mont Bar dish looks amazing. And yeah, I think that’s a bucket of sea cucumbers in the picture from Seoul. They will not win any beauty contests.

i am in engaged in the (very slow) process of writing our trip up here:

I managed to wander my way into an area in which I felt uncomfortable. My sense is from talking to a friend that lived there is that milaflores and barranco are fine but we still took the precaution of not wearing jewelry and stepping away from the street while checking our phones for directions. At one point, we had a 15 min walk at night after dinner and we decided to take an uber, which I understand, a lot of locals tend to do.

best,
