The mind reels. I could go for an egg roll right now, come to think of it.
I think thatās a New England/Boston thing. And maybe the fries are the NY equivalent. In the Boston/New England area, the old school Chinese American places always offered a roll or a hunk of bread with your Chinese takeout. Maybe thatās why the fries seem to out of place for me, but throw in a dinner roll and I would not have batted an eye.
Thatās funny. My grandmother snuck her favorite crusty loaf into every Chinese restaurant we went to, because she preferred it with the sauces. Was probably embarrassing at some point to her kids, but by the time the grandkids came around it was a family joke (and all her kids were regulars at the places she thought she was being really naughty - ie the nicer ones, so the staff was very kind about it especially in her later years, but she still enjoyed the āsneakingā)
aināt a lot of yungāuns here
This drift is reminding me of one of the first times I went to visit my at the time fiancĆ©ās family. We arrived late in suburban Boston and had not eaten dinner. There was a late night Chinese takeout place open that we went to and ordered food. I get the bag and we head to her parentās house. Open bag, I see a bunch of rolls but no rice. I think to myself WTF? Whereās the rice? My lovely fiancĆ© tells me I would have had to ask for rice if I wanted it. Who knew you had to ask for rice at a Chinese place?
Somebody needs to recruit new blood. Or start reproducing or something.
Or we could find out where young people post about food? And peek in on their food websites without revealing our old age?

Its ubiquity has broadened to sushi !
Oh, my goodness. But! is that an authentic lomo saltado roll? Experts, weigh in!
I stir fry leftover fries (from In N Out, usually, but thick cut steak fries work well also) with jarred spaghetti sauce and chopped up hot dogs and peas (#BecauseHealth). Is that weird?
No care, itās stupid delicious.
We werenāt enough on the ball to order it, though it should be undoubtedly tasty, if our dinner was any indication. Weāre now reminding ourselves that Nobuās cuisine has Peruvian twists here and there, owing to his experience operating in the country.
That surprises me not at all. I saw tons of Asian influences on Peruvian menus (tiradito is derived from sashimi, for starters, and I posted upthread a dish of Korean-ish cold noodles). Thereās no reason that canāt flow both ways.
Now we just have to wait for cuy sushiā¦
At a now defunct boat place a plate of nigiri topped with a nice slice of steak floated by from time to time, and too rarely.
I have been admiring your meals for how long and never realized this?!
