It’s just for those over exposed areas…

Now when I give the wifey money to go food shopping and jokingly say: " and pick yourself up something special while you’re there" I guess she actually could.

I like their bakery also. Love their donuts and cookies.

I wish they had Dukes light

Not sure what you’re looking for in a market but they have been blowing me away with their sale meat prices. Last week bacon was 2$/lb, ground 80% chuck was like 1.65, this week whole chickens are 65c. It’s kind of nuts.

I’ve been pleased with most of the meats I’ve purchased. I bought a pork tenderloin which had a very strange liverish flavor. They refunded my money with no questions asked. Honestly, the clerk couldn’t have cared less…

I like Lidl, I really do, but I see prices like that and scenes from Soylent Green start to play in my mind.

I’m not familiar with soylent green… but I’m guessing it’s not a good thing.

The cool thing is their chicken doesn’t have significant additional water weight added like at some other markets, esp at places like Aldi. (Always check the label for water weight, for instance even between brands like Tyson and Perdue there can be a couple percent difference.)

So far I haven’t gotten any meat from there that wasn’t regular supermarket quality.
Got a pack of bratwurst the other day, and while it didn’t have that ā€œclassicā€ Johnsonville taste (which is one of my all time favorite sausages), it was less than half the price - something like 1.79 for 19 ozs I think. Yeowza!!

The only thing they can’t beat the local markets on seems to be steak.

I have used that style jar (Costco peaches) to can as well. But a few years ago in a seemingly reputable article on canning (can’t recall where but it wasn’t a jar manufacturer), I read that these sauce and fruit jars are NOT made to withstand home canning and frequently crack or explode. So, caveat emptor.

When I attended ā€œcanning collegeā€ put on through the local Extension Office they relayed the ame info. Granted, they tend to come from a very conservative pov in this area.

Just picked up a loaf of that rosemary and olive oil bread you all have been raving about. WOW. Restaurant-quality stuff right there. Absolutely delicious. Reminds me of the focaccia that Macaroni Grill used to start you off with back in the day (when they were still around).

And I say this not even being a fan of rosemary. I like the flavor, just do not really enjoy biting into pieces of it.

Lidl: the only place I know you can get quality bread and a chainsaw within 50 feet of each other.

The bakery sucked when the NC locations first opened. The NJ raves about it have prompted me to revisit their offerings. So far they have been good! I wonder if they have changed recipes? I’ve revisited some of the items I tried 2 years ago… So thank you NJ folks! I had written off the bakery 2 years ago.

When the bread slicer breaks you have a diy option at your disposal!

I prefer to rip my bread rather than slice it. Just personal preference.

We like the walnut bread and the cheese rolls. Both needed to be enjoyed warm though. I find their breads tasteless at room temp.

I believe this is their new advertising campaign. :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

I’m going to have to issue you a " Ho’ cease and desist order" @gcaggiano. You must be trolling some of my posts from the late 90’s where I used to muse about Costco: ā€œWhere else can I go and buy a bottle of vodka, steak, underwear, a gallon of peanut butter, a jumbo hot dog for $ 1.00 all while getting my tires changedā€.

Just checked out Lidl’s circular for the coming week: it is Greek week!

Specials on Feta cheese, spinach pies, certain kinds of seafood (calamari rings and octopus in different varieties and sauces), desserts, pastries, seasonings, and even a frozen gyro sandwich kit.

They appear to have their own brand, Eridanous.

Finally tried some of their walnut bread today. Damn is that good! Very straightforward: a good bread LOADED with large chunks of walnuts. Heated with a little butter and I don’t need anything else.

Also picked up a jar of organic virgin coconut oil for $2.89. I think my eyes almost fell out of my head at seeing that price. Shop Rite charges $9.99 for the same size jar, and Aldi recently went from $5.99 to $3.89. I use it in my hair instead of gel and just happen to be making a curry sweet potato soup this week that calls for it!
