Kokkari in San Francisco
Evvia in Palo Alto, maybe an hour south, owned by the same people as Kokkari
Pathos in Berkeley, started by some Kokkari folks. This one doesn’t have many entrees beyond the ones you’re probably tired of.
Because they all have the same roots, it might not make sense to hit all three. Of course, you’re right about the Bay Area generally providing an “eating extravaganza”, just not among Greek places.
The beauty is that I don’t tire of it. And I find so much Greek in so many places. I’ll spare you the details and just thank you for the names of the places I hope to try.
Besides San Francisco and Sonoma and Napa we had the chance to head out to Gilroy for the garlic festival.
I don’t discriminate. I find beauty in the best places.
Greek, or not…
(Very!) longtime mostly-lurker from Chowhound who has just found my way here. Name on CH was Poptart.
From Boston area
Love love love reading cookbooks, and experimenting with random cooking techniques. Big admirer of real, honest food (like grandma used to make) but also love new takes on honest food. Lover and addict of good coffee.
Seminal food experiences include 1) learning to cook simple Italian food from my grandmother 2) trip to Italy where I discovered that all fruits and vegetables there must be grown by magic because they all taste so much better than the ones I grew up eating in the US 3) Farmer’s market produce…learning to cook with veggies I never knew about before (hello, purslane!)
NotJrevedivici, believe it or not I found this board by googling “Chowhound replacement” !
It had been awhile since I’d visited the Chowhound site, after the redesign. I noticed not nearly as many postings and remembered reading awhile back that many had gone to an alternative site. My google search brought the hungryonion.org as a top hit! I will definitely tell a friend who I believe was a Chowhounder in the past.
Excellent! Nice to know we are leaving a mark on Google searches! Please do invite all you can, we are young and still trying to grow, appreciate your help. Welcome again!
Did you see that Joey Kramer, drummer from Aerosmith, just opened a coffee shop in North Attleboro called Rockin’ and Roastin’ Cafe? He’s been into coffee for a LONG time and decided to open his own place.
ah, the logic of Google (or the lack thereof) – when I google that exact phrase (no quotes) I get the LA Times article (refers to HO), the EastBay Express article (also mentions HO), and then your CH or not CH survey.
