Mee Tarik Lanzhou is a Mainland Chinese Hui Muslim-run eatery on Jalan Sultan in downtown Kuala Lumpur. The chef outside the shop was making one of more popular street-side snacks trending in KL nowadays: Chinese Muslim roti.
The food item in question is actually a crisp-fried, stuffed flatbread known as π΄ππΌ πΈππΆ (Chinese: ιη) in China. Originating in Shaanxi province, the name literally translates to βpot helmetβ, as it was supposedly invented by a labourer who cooked flatbread in his iron helmet over a wood fire. The food item dates back to the Tang Dynasty (618 to 907AD).
The π΄ππΌ πΈππΆ is traditionally presented as a gift by a grandmother to her grandson when he turns one-month-old (Chinese: ζ»Ώζ), a traditional custom among the Han Chinese.

Iβd not really tried a lot of these, only at 4 places so far, and the filled breads tend to be rather bland and stodgy.
The only place which I like is this insanely busy one at Bukit Bintang:
