Yup, we’re dealing with that exact condition. Never knew you should test every decade.

It’s really much ado about nothing.

Thanks for the link!

I don’t know if this is correct or not, but one reason we went with granite instead of quartzite is the remodeler said quartzite tended to be a bit more porous (although he also said the sealants were pretty good) and potentially more easily scuffed than granite. But I think we would have been happy with it anyway.

But what sold me on granite was there seemed to be much more variety.

Unfortunately that lead me to a lot of creep. I have no idea what the installed cost is today, but the overall remodel quote assumed $55/sf. What I ended up with was more like $110/sf.

Same problem with the cabinets… I just kept looking at (and loving) ever more expensive versions.

Remodeling is really just this in real life …

That’s probably why we will end up with quartz it’s just cheaper and is durable. Scope creep is so real!

Remodels/Upgrades do not have to cost an arm and a leg. The majority of the cost is labor. A little DIY initiative and a few youtube videos and I do think most homeowners can obtain the results they desire.
I’m really not that skillful, but with a (tile) Wet Saw… anyone can have beautiful results with a little time and effort.
I found a beautiful old entertainment center at a thrift store, I cut the top off, added some durock board and marble and made a beautiful vanity (on the cheap).
Same with the tub… ripped out the old tub, put in a shower pan, a little durock board and some marble & had the shower I wanted. I will say marble is harder to work with than granite (in my opinion). It does require a bit more patience, but it is not impossible.

If you prefer Natural Stone and your Projekt isn’t super large you should check with local Granite Counter top Folks.
I was able to get my Stone from Stock they had from another Job at a pretty big Discount.

The (tile) wet saw I have has a sliding bed for the piece you are cutting. Before turning the saw on, I look where my hands/fingers are and slide the bed towards the blade, just to double check there will be no injuries. And I always wear eye/hearing protection.
That being said… I do get wet from from this saw and prefer to do my cutting outside.

Thanks appreciate the explainer it was more a tongue in cheek joke. If there was a gun to my head and I had all the proper equipment which definitely would be hard to source to cut stone, I probably could do it, but I’d just rather not.

I guess that’s why we all work lol.

I have no idea if my photo uploaded. This was during the remodel.
I chose white Corian, after considering every material out there! Easy to clean, stains don’t set in and no sealing required. Scratches can be buffed out with a green Scotchbrite sponge. Very forgiving, no clinking sounds the with glass, modern, repairable (I kept the cut-outs in case of extreme damage).

Looks nice, and I like your cabinets too - congrats on your new kitchen!
Underwent a remodel about 6 years ago, and chose Cambria for the countertops. Like the performance and looks, but had a hard time getting used to all the clattery noise! Wasn’t at all prepared for that after years of having Formica, but I’ve gotten used to it now.

Ikea cabinets! The kids and I assembled and hung on the rail. Never again. Leveling 23ft of cabinets nearly killed me, lol. Drawers were worth it. Once.

I hear you - I watched our contractor suffer through it, all the while complaining about our house being crooked, or not plumb, as he said. It’s true, the house settled, but so much more work than most people imagine.
Anyway, your kitchen looks great & I hope you all have fun cooking in it.
