We used to love the thin skin and flavor of the soup from Kung Fu Xiao Long Bao in Flushing but the quality has dipped significantly over the years.
Is there another spot that does it that well?
We used to go to Shanghai Heping year’s before that but didn’t find it as good as Kung Fu XLB from years ago.
King fu over in queensborough hill was my favorite, with Nan xiang a close second. Have you tried Nan Xiang in flushing in their new spot?
My fav pork/chive dumplings in manhattans Chinatown are from noodle village, I recall they had excellent soup dumplings and the rest of the menu was very good.
Yes, several times. Not bad at all, which is a major recommendation for anything in Bklyn Heights. I am totally pissed off at them for adding a significant per item price increase for delivery over their in store menu. I get that they need to cover DoorDash costs, etc but, when ordering several small dishes, I wind up paying quite a bit more. Other neighborhood places are significantly less for delivery upcost. Of course, getting dumplings delivered is not the best way to eat them anyway so maybe I need to get off my butt and go there instead?
By the way, I thought that you left NYC a year ago. Are you back?
My folks live in the tristate so we drive back from time to time. Was meeting a few friends in the city (and was picking up a couple bottles we can’t get at LCBO) so was looking for things i can’t either make or buy in GTA.
Really liked the crab soup dumplings at Din Soup Dumpling in Brooklyn. A lot of soup in each dumpling and had very good crab flavor. Skin wasn’t as dedicate like how kung fu used to do it but it had good texture and thin enough for us where we didn’t have to put on kid gloves when using the tongs. If KungFu’s had potato starch-like glossy skin, Din Soup Dumpling’s was softer and silkier with a talexture similar to biting into mochi. We like it better than Heping but could be a personal preference as Heping used to be our favorite before Kung Fu xlb showed up in queens (kung fu xlb was sliding on their quality a few years before they closed that location).
Read my friend Gordon’s review here. He’s a dining buddy of mine, I trust him 100%, esp on matters of sushi and Chinese food in general (he’s Shanghainese-American, his mom a former Shanghai dim sum chef).
