ISO advice on cooking 2# Dungeness crab?

It’s frozen. Should I thaw it before steaming? Cook it some other way and if so, thaw first? I enjoy crab but have never prepared it myself.

I assume it’s precooked and whole so it can go straight into the steam. Honestly I’m no expert on frozen. I lived in Northern California and could get Dungeness fresh. Heck I even ate rock crab.

I always thaw first. I would make crab cakes.

If it’s cooked, I’d thaw it in the fridge, and use it in a cooked preparation with as little additional heat as possible. But I’ve never cooked frozen crab, yes; I’m spoiled and checking my privilege.

I’ve used frozen shells though, and I’d make some stock with those, if you think you might use it.
