Ischia, Naples trip report

Oh, that pasta sounds so good! And I agree, chilies or maybe even just a sprinkle of RPF would make that dish sing.

I wonder if that was predominantly in the UK? I’ve not seen Germans eat a burger with knife & fork, but I’ve lived a sheltered life

Unless it was a really posh Michelin 3* joint, and even then I wouldn’t care, nobody would even notice. But whatever makes you comfortable. The only times I’ve ever eaten a burger with a k&f is when it’s impossible to eat it any other way( which is very rarely) , but I have used utensils to eat pizza.

Yes! I do think it was probably mostly Brits, now that you mention it.

If it’s the floppier kind I’ll start off with k&f and cut the tip. Then it’s my hands all the way.

Ok, reading that back sounds a lil naughty

A mayoral candidate in nyc got so much grief for this :joy:

Last night I popped into a slice place with out of town friends and a guy at the next table was eating his grandma slice with a flimsy plastic fork and knife, with side eye from everyone else :rofl::rofl:

I wouldn’t have done it myself either, in Europe

That’s how I eat a floppy pie

Oh, I remember the mayoral thing well, and always gave him the side eye when comedians made fun of the whole thing.

He also pronounces the D in Wednesday, so I have a lot to deal with :joy: Luckily I love him.

I’ve learned that having the freedom of no dinner reservation is sometimes wonderful. You take your chances, you eat when you want, it’s a toss of the dice. This is what I did this evening. Didn’t work out so well this time, but odds (at least in Italy) remain in my favor. I had seen people looking very content in this place, and it is close to my hotel and doesn’t have a view. Seems promising! It is called BisBoccia and is empty when I get there, but I got there very early- before 7:30. I order some water and a glass of local wine and feel happy. The appetizer was actually delicious. I think it was described as eggplant meatballs. Nice and crunchy on the outside, almost like arancini, with a slightly creamy tomato sauce and some sort of cream drizzled over it.

Having gone since breakfast without food, I am so ready for the spaghetti alla nerano, the fried zucchini pasta. I have made this at home, and it was delicious. But tonight it was a gloppy mess. I ate maybe half. Locals kept coming in, taking food to go, chatting with the wait staff, so maybe I just ordered the wrong pasta.

Got back to the hotel slightly peckish and wanting a nice glass of wine, and they brought a wine and some snacks up. I will always recommend this place! I feel very well taken care of. Il Monastero.

Off to Naples tomorrow. No reservation again tomorrow if people want to throw ideas my way.

Bummer about the disappointing pasta, but tomorrow’s another day!

You should probably have pizza… >ducks<

what neighborhood are you staying in in Naples? Such a great town - my younger daughter is there right now staying in Vomero

They must be a great snack because in the UK you can get these in the supermarket. We regularly snaffle a bag over a few glasses of wine.

Very near the Archeological Museum, Piazza Bellini. I am hoping to visit Vomero.

Oh fantastic! Will look and see if they’re available in the US. Thank you.
