I wanna know more about Whoopie Pies!

I found a recipe online the other day and my kids and I are in love with them. Do you eat Whoopie Pies and what flavor combinations do you recommend?

Whoopie Pies are a Philly staple! Chocolate cake and vanilla filling. I have a friend whose mom makes the best ever. (We’re getting together next weekend . . . how do I hint for a new batch

There’s a whole kerfuffle between Pennsylvania and Maine
as to their provenance. Other flavors are listed here: http://www.wickedwhoopies.com

Disliking the basic one, I haven’t tried other ones.

They are very popular in western PA where they are known as ‘gobs’.

In America, gob means an amorphous lump, or a large amount. On the other side of the pond, it’s mouth, and that’s where gobsmacked originated. “I’m gobsmacked” = “Well, shut my mouth!”, more or less. Presumably using gob for the baked good refers not to the shape per se, but the fact that although it looks like an Oreo or other cream-filled cookie, it’s much too large to fit into one’s mouth.
