I got black & blue marks at Stew Leonard's, Yonkers...

Yes…the pic is a couple of years old

The meat is so thick though.

That’s because it’s hand carved and cured and smoked in house.
It literally melts in the mouth…very different
than what is being sold at Stews.
That said I still prefer my pastrami sliced
thinner. Next time I’m at Stews I’ll take a picture
of their pastrami.

Sorry, I forgot this thread is about Stews. Not really in my neck of the woods, we have the old fashioned NY delis out here just for comparison sake.

Have you had Katz’s pastrami?

It’s extraordinary. I hope they still pile it on like they did in the past.

Didn’t one of the big ones close? Stage or Carnegie?

O/T, I’m surprised Stew’s keeps them coming in. I know relatives who like his prices on seafood, and don’t mind the drive or agita.

Carnegie was closed short of a year, gas leak
Stage closed permanently … rent

Ohhhhhh.

Thanks.

Yum. I had the brisket there and it was killer.

They did when I was there. Only I got brisket. And I took half the sandwich home and ate it later.

Carnegie did not come close to Katz’s, unfortunately.

Yes, a couple of times but not very recently. Don’t remember it being as thick as in the photo, wonder if I still have the photo I took

Carnegie has reopened and everything is relative
their pastrami is “very good” in comparison to any
that is available in Westchester IMO.

Could just be the angle of the photo

If you look at my plate you will see what looks like a
whole sandwich…it is half a whole made into another
whole.

I would gladly take a bruise for one of those sandwiches…

G…which one are you referring to?

Carnegie or Katz’s, either one…and I would not rule out 2nd Ave. Deli either.

I do remember it being a little thicker than usual, guess due to cutting it by hand. Now I’ll have to make an effort to get back there in the near future, just so I can say

I have to say, the last time I was at Katz’ (about a year ago), I was disappointed. I specifically asked for the extra fatty pastrami and it was still pretty lean. Still delicious, but not as unctuous as usual. Also, the sandwich was MUCH smaller than on past visits, and the price had jumped substantially.
