Lawrence has a great brunch! I went there in 2013 with 5 Chowladies.
Have I mentioned we are staying at the Fairmont Chateau Laurier?
I figured there was a 1 in 3 chance you’d be staying there.
Excellent property and location!
On our way!
I’m so excited for you and your husband! Enjoy!
Yippee!
Thank you! Our daughter is joining us. I have to share this fancy water-bottle-fillers at SFO, where they don’t allow overhead announcements.
For @ChristinaM
Thinking of, and eating for you during high tea at The Ritz.
I had a virgin pear Mimosa, and an herbal ginger tea.
My favorite was this strawberry piece. It somehow managed very fresh, very strawberry flavors, and not too sweet cream.
I hope you are well!
Looks delightful!
The brunch at Maison Boulud , esp in the courtyard, at the Ritz is really nice, if that’s where you’re staying in Mtl. The Musée de Beaux Arts is very nice, a few blocks away.
(The brunch at Lawrence and diner breakfast at Beauty’s (down to earth, cheap relative to Maison Boulud and Lawrence), are also some places l like)
It was! We also took public transportation
, and went to Schwartz for smoked meat
3 different cuts
Montreal Bagels, hot out of the oven
A cheese and cider tasting at a cool food place
Chicken oysters!?!
And an amazing market
There was more, but I am resting up for dinner!
I absolutely loved SFO. There’s a soup & salad place that was some of the best airport food I’ve had. Ladle and something? Fork & ladle?
Bon voyage, and can’t wait to read about your food (and other) adventures!
ETA: Shoulda scrolled down first — I see you made it. How wonderful!
Living vicariously!
Did you try any of the strawberries from the Jean Talon market? I was surprised on our first fall trip to Montreal to find strawberries in season as I am used to them being an early summer thing where we live. Later growing season. They were awesome.
I don’t know if you have preselected all the places to eat at but if you’re in the mood for Japanese go to Kitano Shokudo. It’s not too far from where you were at Schwartz’s.
For someone who lived in Montreal for almost 25 years, your hitting all the right places. Love that market. I miss it so much but we cant travel to Montreal anymore due to dh mobility issues. Enjoy.
The nurseries in Canada have new varieties of everbearing strawberries that can be grown until October, in greenhouses or with frost covers.
The Quebec strawberries don’t tend to taste quite as good after August, in my experience.
The ones I like in the summer are usually grown on Ile d’ Orlèans, near Quebec City.
Quebec and Ontario don’t get enough heat units to grow great strawberries in Sept and Oct.
I did not, but I hope I get another chance on those and many things! They smelled amazing, and they seemed of a reasonable size: not the gigantic ones that are often tasteless.
Last night dinner was at Modavie.
Tonight having dinner at Place Carmin, and brunch plans for Wolf and Workman. And maybe Verdun. Daughter wants to visit a bookstore “Pulp”. Husband is doing the planning and so far so good!
Bon jour, hi!
Dinner at Place Carmin, short walk from the William Gray.
A salmon sashimi with crispy bits and avocado. This may have been my favorite
A really nice salad; Boston lettuce, apples, yogurt
A cauliflower dish; we all enjoyed this one, but I don’t remember the details. Roasted cauliflower
fried egg, almonds, truffle and a wonderful dressing
Nicely done Canard a l’orange carrots, pistachios.
Pork filet sauce, rösti, red cabbage. Husband ordered frite on the side.
Really nice music and ambiance!
Brunch at Wolf and Workman, also a few minutes walk
HOWARD SCOTCH EGG
Duck egg, maple syrup sausage, Branston chutney, arugula
“Croisandwich” BLT
Croissant roll, calypso sauce, bacon, egg, tomato, iceberg lettuce, pickles, onions, seasonal salad
Blueberry and Bacon Pancakes
Blueberry pancakes (3), bacon, maple syrup, butter
We stopped on the way back, and waited on a long line for coffee at Cafe Olympico, attached to the hotel.
A good morning!
We are going to Le Club Chasse Et Pêche for dinner.
Looks fantastic
