The first crocuses are up in southwestern Ontario.
Skiff of snow overnight. 29°F. More to come today. The symphony of birds songs are all out again this morning. Robins jousting for territorial rights. Steller jay pair picking up nesting materials. Waiting for the Sandhill cranes to show up. A mating pair of northern flickers are occupying the suet seed cake. my neighborhood birds.
I saw my first robin of 2025 yesterday.
Ours were ridiculouly early, the usual date is 3/14 and the earliest has been 3/5. February is way too early and we had dumps of snow then. There are a few mountain ash trees left that they didnât totally clean out last fall. Dumping graupel right now. Weâre at 48 ° latitude.
Where I am in southwestern Ontario is at 43â° latitude. Toronto is at 43.6â°.
Itâs been getting warmer, but this morning it was 32F and I needed to scrape my windshield. Last weekend, it was actually warm enough to open the windows and hear the peepers at night, which is always delightful!
The contrast in colors is striking!
21C today. In three days supposed to be back to snow. Are the winter boots still cluttering up the hallway? Yes, they are and theyâll stay there until after the yearly April snowstorm. It ainât over yet, folks.
Theyâre so I cute. I will plant more in the fall.
Another variety of crocus popped up this afternoon.
I have been wearing Birkenstock sandals the last 2 days.
I cannot wait til I can switch back to my Birks. Iâm guessing it wonât be consistently 65F+ til mid April.
Youâre far tougher than I am. Itâs wool socks and full shoes/boots for me until itâs about 25C. I was made for far warmer climes.
I switched back to Birkenstock boots today
Whatâs that old saying about March roaring in? Today we had all the weather and the winds. Happy first day of Spring?
We woke up to 2-1/2 " of pow this morning. The shredders are stoked for their races.
Forecast is predicting low 80s in our part of the Bay Area for Monday and Tuesday, before the temps go back down to normal.
Well, the tally for precip yesterday was all over the board. 4+" of snow, 1" hail and a few sprinklings of graupel. Then there was the rain and sunshine thrown in. Spring is here!
I didnât make it outside to cut some emerging chives I wanted for the deviled eggs I was going to make. Will try today.
âThe Bay Area is in for another weather whiplash, with some cities likely to break record-high temperatures for the first time in nearly a century before an unsettled pattern takes hold, delivering scattered showers and the potential for an atmospheric river by the end of the monthâ
Whee!
