Even at four bucks, that’s probably a fair price, although if they still offered the polish sausage, it’d be even better IMO.
And the spicy brown mustard they used to have.
Yes!
I’m pretty sure my local Costco still hands out little cups of sauerkraut on request, too, but I don’t think they all do.
Onions at ours, no sauerkraut and no sb mustard. Sometimes I will bring in a tiny saqeeze in a mini zipper top bag, that is if I remember if I’m going to Costco. I should keep a few of them in the car.![]()
And the sauerkraut!
We had hot dogs tonight. Of course, I forgot to take pix, but the main reason for the dogs was to try Slawsa, a condiment that is sort of a salsa/cole slaw hybrid. IIRC, the company’s founder went on Shark Tank but didn’t get any of the sharks to bite, but she soldiered on and busted her butt to get her product to market. Long story short, the Slawsa (original recipe) was about par for the course for any hot dog relish. It was kind of sweet - a tad too sweet for Mrs. ricepad, who would have preferred a bit more tang - but the four of us agreed that we’d happily use it again until the jar is gone. Probably would not spend our own money on it, but would use it on somebody else’s nickel.
Not sure if this is the right thread to post it on, but I just re-realized that horseradish (the real stuff) is fantastic on Costco hotdogs.
I tried my first Montreal Steamie this weekend.
This steamie was made with a Lester’s hot dog.
I went with Whistle Dog, which includes coleslaw, bacon and cheese at Billy K’s, a small chain in Ontario and Quebec. I would order it again.
Lafleur and La Belle Province are 2 other Quebec chains that sell steamies.
My friend likes Michigan Dogs, which are a bit like a chili dog steamie.
Ours does it with chopped onions but didn’t have sauerkraut last time I asked. ![]()
Completo Dinamico = A Chilean hot dog, the ‘perfected/complete’ version of a New York Dog?
Read all about it: When Hot Dog isn’t enough: The Chilean Completo
I am not anxious to try one. I’m afraid I’d have trouble getting past the first bite.
I would definitely try it once
I liked the Completo I tried in Toronto at a restaurant called Completo. The one they offer is not quite as loaded as the one in your photo.
Not only would I try it once, I would probably try it a second time just to be sure.
Tried a natural casing dog with kimchi and melted cheddar yesterday. Different, but pretty good for a change. I think I saw it on line somewhere.
I have always felt this way about all but the fattest hot dogs - I usually eat them on a half bun, like an open faced sandwich. Harder to hold but much more satisfying!
Resolutely holding the line:
There used to be a place in Astoria, Queens that served a completo. IIRC, it was excellent.
