Hong Kong Eats 2026

We took the #914 Dbl Decker under Fragrant Harbour, from Wanchai to Sham Shui Po.

The SSP District is a change of pace from the gleaming high rises and frenetic pace of HK Island. Still with the HK vibe & energy, just more residential and subdued.

KUNG WO BEANCURD FACTORY

A bowl of DOUFU FWA and GRILLED TOFU SAMPLER
A touch of their signature Orange Tang :trade_mark: for a bit of sweetener.

Fresh SOY MILK is so, so good!!

KUNG WO has added a larger true restaurant next door since our last visit. For a TASTE of OLD HONG KONG.

Getting dark, time for something more substantial.

WAI KEE
Another SSP Institution. Working neighborhood folk sharing tables with YSL and Channel bagged ladies. Then there’s us.

TOAST with SCRAMBLED EGG & MINCED BEEF

PORK LIVER & BEEF with MACARONI
WAI KEE classic. No Wagyu or Berkshire Branded nonsense here. Pedestrian meat prepared right, adhering to handed down decades old formulae.

An easy stroll down to JORDAN & THE AUSTRALIAN DAIRY COMPANY for their uber famous Double Steamed Milk.

Wrong!!! Closed Thursdays. Whazzup with Dat?!?!

We tempered our disappointment with some more Won-Ton Mein.

MAK MAN KEE NOODLE SHOP
Could barely see through their storefront window, what with all the MICHELLIN stickers plastered all over the glass.

Not the kinda joint where one can leisurely stage and record good photos for one’s scrapbook. OLD SCHOOL HONG KONG SERVICE!!!

Waiters are impatiently waiting to take your order, even as you are settling onto your stool at your shared table.

Menu?!?! WTF?!?! It’s a Won-Ton house, ferchrissake!!

Ok. We’ll have the Won-Ton Mein. And the Won-Ton Mein. One Wet, one dry.

Our tablemate watched with side eye amusement as this tourist started taking snaps of….WON TON AND NOODLES!!

We did the right thing. Ordered quickly, slurped down our bowl/plate quickly, and vacated our real estate for the next folks in queue.

A beautiful walk back thru Tsim Sha Tsui to the Star Ferry Terminal to complete our Tourista Tour de Force.

The city was just settling down as we enjoyed a glass of Shiraz back in our room.

Only 3 more nights to go. Already planning our return.
