Hong Kong 2024 -- First Visit

Tasty Congee and Wonton today for wantun mien.

Oof delicious!

A few people decided to join me, so we ended up ordering a bunch more things to share — fish ball congee, fried noodles (chow fun but skinny) with pork, garlic “kale” (aka chinese broccoli / yu choy), you tiao cheung fun, and fried wontons (rogue order).

My first time trying congee, and it was wonderful! Reminded me of an Indian millet porridge (I’ve never eaten kanji either, which is what congee originally derives from).

The wontons of course were fabulous. Soup was incredibly flavorful, and the noodles were skinny and delicate with a lovely chew. (@vinouspleasure the wontons were 2 bites vs the jumbos we ate, but the jumbos were as good as these imo).

They served a chilli sauce that was also superb - reminded me of Tibetan 2 Nepali momo chutney (as agreed by 2 Nepali friends at the meal).

We were in Kowloon for M+ (fabulous but exhausting, and with a fantastic retrospective of IM Pei) so I convinced the others to swing by Temple Street Night Market for a short wander before we got chased home by a combination of rain clouds and exhaustion.

Finally some egg tarts — these are from Bakehouse.
