Hanging out in Sacramento!

Re: Kru

A seat for one at the bar on a weeknight is probably doable w/o a reservation. Their fish is well presented and consistently delicious, but you’re not going to get the same sort of thing as you might get at a high-end omakase place in SF, LA, or NYC. As a night out, it’s a nice treat for me and the partner. It’s $$$, but some of that price is for what I have always found to be excellent service and ambiance.

The partner particularly likes their house Old Fashioned.

Ju Hachi in midtown offers fish of (imho) similar quality at slightly better prices, but is a much more casual affair, and service can be… let’s call it ‘unhurried’. If, however, you’re the type to buy your itame shots of sake, you will DEFINITELY be paid a lot of attention.

I’m fairly certain all the good-to-very-good sushi places in Sac source their fish through the same wholesaler, Sunh Fish. This is where you go if you’re doing your own sushi at home, or if you want live local Dungeness.
