Looks really good!
I’m pretty sure you just won Halloween, @NotJrvedivici !!
So I popped in here a couple months ago because I was craving some of that NYC street meat lamb/chicken over rice stuff. I was sort of stoked looking at the menu prices because it seemed really reasonable. Unfortunately it was an old menu and their basic plates are 10+ bucks now.
Placed an order, they said to come in 20 minutes. Took 40+ to get the order despite them having a relatively large kitchen staff and not many other pickup customers. Not a single person our of their staff was wearing a mask.
Food was really boring and IMO not really worth the money, totally destroyed my hopeful NYC street cart hopes.
Sorry Grill 36.
Here’s my take on this place and it’s probably unfair, because I’ve only been once …PLUS I’m going to sound like a pompous ass.
If you have nothing to judge by, it is different and fairly tasty. If you have experience with arabic/middle eastern food this place is not going to do it for you. The flavors, the portions, the sauces… All good, but just a little off.
I should probably give it another try. And I hope I’m wrong.
I don’t think any of that sounded pompous. I think I was being a little harsh saying “really boring.” It’s fine, just doesn’t have that NYC street meat oomph. Serving is a little bit on the small side though.
Looking back at the pics from 2019 it looks like prices have gone up 20-30% and portions shrank about 20%, which is what mostly left me feeling meh about the place combined with the excessive wait time. I wasn’t full after I finished my meal (plus a shared falafel app).
