Not sure if I should call this a restaurant … but “Pompette 3.0” is now Bar Allegro …
Name and concept changed, but same team.
To me, it feels more of a bar with snacks than a proper restaurant. For those who enjoy drinking, go try.

@theleverage gave me the heads up about Makann, a new Palestinian breakfast sandwich and coffee shop on Bathurst across from the subway station. They had a soft opening this week.

They offer take-out  (no room for tables)

I don’t know how much my lone EggSlut sando cost in Japan. It was good.

Not sure I will pay $20 CAD for EggSlut in TO, but I’m already occasionally paying $24 for an Italian sando at Alfie’s, which is 2 meals for me.

I decided my new price ceiling for burgers, sandos, and handhelds is $34.99 CAD. I will order that $32 Union Burger in the near future.

I have been buying less breakfast sandwiches in 2026. I have paid between $12 and $16 for most take-out breakfast sandwiches, from coffee shops and places that don’t have table service .

The really good breakfast sandwich at Union, with table service, is still $20.

and my Croque Toast at Emmer was priced at $19. Both Union and Emmer are bougie places, prices higher than most places.

I get my Italian sub down the street for $12-$13, two meals for me these days. And I’ll keep getting my egg McMuffin when it’s two can dine promo.

My affordable sandwich in Little Italy is my $7.50 Tosta Mista at Café Bélem, or a $10-$12 breakfast sando in Kensington at MadeRite or Fika.

I don’t have a local place like La Salumeria or Maselli’s making a good $12 Italian sub. I’m paying $17 at Lambo’s.

I’m sure they’re tasty, but I can’t justify those prices. You enjoy though!!

The cost of taking the subway to get to Maselli’s or La Salumeria for me is the difference between the price in a $17 sub and a $12 sub. I guess that’s where I pinch a few pennies. I walk to get all my take-out. And I don’t really drink anything other than coffee, tea and water. More for sandos.

Priorities and preferences, I guess. (I no longer spend money on skiing or travelling, so I guess I’m open to paying more for overpriced sandwiches at home )

Grant Van Gameren grabbed his power base of talent and opened in Picton. To no one’s surprise, it’s receiving a lot of local love.

Hello mrsleny,
I am not much of a fan of Turkish food, finding them very similar to Persian, with most of their mains, a touch one dimensional and char-grilled centric…Kebabs, Doner…etc.
In my neighbourhood, I’ve eaten at ’ Istanbul ’ and ’ Efendi ', finding them a touch over-priced, acceptable but nothing to write home about!
I checked out the menu and overall set up of ’ Mangal Prime ’ and am not sure I am willing to dish out a premium in $$$ for upscale, trendy and luxurious decor?
May be someone else can chip in?!
HAPPY EASTER!
