[Greater Toronto Area] Openings of 2025

Shake Shack is opening down the street at Y&E in the cursed spot just east of Yonge, on the north side.
Should I be excited??

It’s very good. I don’t know that I enjoy it any more than I have enjoyed Holy Cow, Happy Burger, Harry’s Charbroiled, Rudy, etc.

They do have lots of milkshake flavours, but I’ve never ordered one.

Their cheeseburger is what I get when I’m near the Times Square location.

I’ve only tried it twice. The normal stuff I found much better than Harry’s Charbroiled and Rudy. I also tried their Mimi Chinese collab which was excellent. As everyone’s tastes are different, I’ll tell you my Toronto benchmark is Burger Drops and Aloette Go (two different type of burgeres) and Shake Shack doesn’t beat it.

I might not have discriminating taste re: burgers. I considered my cheeseburgers at Alouette Go and Matty’s Patty’s to be roughly equivalent to Shake Shack, Harry’s, Happy Burger and Rudy. All good (for me. YMMV). All worth the ~$9- ~$11.

I haven’t tried Jabs or Burger Drops.

It’s a pretty good burger, and it’s close by.

Oops, Holy Chuck. It’s been a while.

In the States, the burger pattie is cooked medium NOT well done and hence not overcooked and much juicier!

Full Stop coffee shop has opened a 2nd location. It is located at Harbord and Grace. Open daily, 7 am to 4 pm.

My recollection is that the pastry chef at the Torornto Shangri La was Calvin Wat (who is IMO the finest in Toronto). I’m NOT denying that there have been others (who might even have trained under Calvin) but I do find it ‘interesting’ that Toronto Life fails to mention Calvin at all!
But the proof will always be in the tasting.

I always enjoyed the pastries at the Shangri La afternoon tea.

Anyone familiar with this place? Just south of Yonge & Bloor. Bold to move in a block south of the new planned Shake shack location.

I was there last November, and the afternoon tea was stellar.

I have had afternoon tea at the Shangri La 3 times, and I’ve been there for tea without food a couple times.

I have always had a good experience, too.

I never tried the Momofuku Milk Bar stuff in Toronto. @elvisahmed Christina Tosi’s recipes for Milk Bar tended to be very sweet. Those Momofuku Milk Bar treats were never part of the Afternoon Tea in the Lobby. I tried Crack Pie, Compost Cookies, etc at the Milk Bar location in Midtown Manhattan several times.

They have two other locations, one in Mississauga and one on King Street, across from Roy Thomson Hall. I’ve seen positive comments on social media about their burgers - the patties are loaded with thinly sliced onions, which apparently is an Oklahoma thing.

(For what it’s worth, I tried Shake Shack at Union Station recently and wasn’t impressed - burgers were overcooked and underseasoned.)

Saw on a recent Summerhill walk I did up to the gorgeous train station LCBO and spotted this seahorse just north - interesting to get confirmation of what’s moving in!

Per Stephanie Dickinson:

Seafood and oyster bar Seahorse is taking over where Tuck Shop Co. formerly stood in Summerhill, (1226 Yonge St.) with chef Federico Garcia , formerly of Quetzal, whipping up a storm of good grub.

@Phoenikia thought of you for this new opening re: breakfast sandwiches and open air patio - in the Annex on Bathurst just south of Summerhill Market on Bathurst in the old “Grapefruit Moon” space @ 968 Bathurst St - and major +1 from me for using Ba Noi’s sourdough for their bennies!
