Wow, can’t wait to hear all about it!
Would “sin carne y tambien sin jamon” work? I’m curious about that!
wow, LLM, sounds fantastic! I am very happy for you and also jealous!
It definitely happens. I went for pho with friends at home in NC and asked what the broth was, was assured it wasn’t meat. I got the exact sort of sick I get from pork. I have become very good at tasting it immediately, but every once in a while something sneaks in.
Not tons to relate foodwise, but two more vegetarian tapas were bread and cheese, and potatoes.
I took a bus (because of the rain) up to Albayzin, where I met too very friendly, tipsy people, who insisted on treating me to drinks (they tried to get me to dinner too), and we ended up at the flamenco, where he got tossed out (the tipsiness had advanced). They were generous and welcoming and wanted me to see “their” Granada. After the show I had a quick bite at Diamontes. This time fried eggplant (not very interesting) and a shrimp omelet, which I loved. More free fried bits with my wine.
I am having a blast!
@Madrid,
“sin carne y también sin jamón” might work
I spent the morning at the Alhambra. Absolutely amazing. Then it was a lazy afternoon writing postcards and reading at various cafes, etc. No dinner, jusy lots of tapas.
One of my all time favorites- anchovies and chips.
Next was at the place next to Diamontes on Pl. Nueva. Sea bream with roe, cheese, and salmon with avocado. The sea bream was especially good.
Back to Diamontes for padrone peppers and shrimp fritters (not a fan of the latter).
Walked past a sweets shop on the way to my hotel and picked up a cashew baklava for the room. Delicious!
Tomorrow is a late lunch at barFM. That will be the main, and probably only, meal of the day. Very excited about it.
Tapas is the way to go! That fish looks amazing
Transported me back
I am back from barFM, and it was fabulous. I loved getting out of the tourist zone and seeing a little of the rest of Granada. Everyone there was helpful and kind, and the food was amazing. I started with anchovy on toast. Then went straight to clams with garlic and parsley. The bartender asked me about my wine preferences and picked a white Rioja for me, which I enjoyed.
Next was something I aw at another table that looked interesting. Turned out to be a special called callos de atun. It used the shoulder and the fat under the skin of tuna, in a somewhat spicy sauce. Different from anything I have ever had, and really tasty.
Next i told the bartender what I was thinking of, asking if he thought there was something I might like better. He was all for my choices - grilled baby squid (absolutely incredible) and fried hake, which was delicately fried and lovely.
This was one of my favorite meals ever. Will try to drag LLD here for this place alone. All this plus 3 glasses of very nice wine for under 65 euros. I would happily have paid much more. Thanks to those who suggested it, and I am sorry I didn’t have room for the razor clams. It was really wonderful.
The baby squid looks fantastic!
All looks so good!
What’s the last pic?
I hope you still have a chance to get some.
Looks fantastic!
It was amazing. Individually cleaned. He told me to just scoop it up into my mouth, and he was right - no cartilage or anything. Totally tender.
The fried hake.
I was thrown by the size given the fork!
It was a small piece of fish, for sure. I asked for the smallest of everything so I could try as much as possible. Honestly I could and would happily have had more of the clams and baby squid!
