Fermented foods are the cure all for all problems. Not!
They’re great for flatulence…
Shirley, you’ve seen this already.
They don’t work that well, which is why I’m ready to consider the CPAP.
Causing or curing?
Causing. Kraut mounted with Kraft “cheese”, washed down with a 40-ounce malt liquor is perfect.
Rumor has it that Robert Oppenheimer only needed to add refried beans and Oreos to this formula to create the hydrogen bomb.
This may be a solution, thanks. A small serving of cottage cheese taken at bedtime has helped. Since I’m in calorie deficit and lifting, I wanted to get some casein in my belly to (hopefully) keep me in nitrogen balance overnight. Whether THAT works is TBD, but the cottage cheese has coincided with me sleeping better.
A solid forehead smack for me…
…sitting on the night table right now is a glass of tart cherry juice (tryptophan, plus it’s a solid anti-inflammatory for my achy joints) taken with a magnesium glycinate capsule.
Im not particularly happy at how decrepit that sentence makes me sound!
So how did it go?
Dude, that’s a HIPAA violation.
For me, what really promotes sleep is not eating or drinking anything but water for at least 3 hours before lying down. Another thing that has been a total game-changer for my sleep has been this old-timey technique for correcting hiatal hernia: At some point in the day when you haven’t eaten for a couple of hours, drink a whole quart of water. You don’t have to chug it, but it has to go in quickly enough to fill up your stomach. Then jump up and down until you feel your stomach drop below your diaphragm completely. You may have to jump a while, pause, then jump again. The first few times you do this, you may not get what exactly you’re feeling for, but after a week or so you will. It takes at least a week of doing this daily to start to experience sleep improvements. Stay vertical (at least sitting up nice and straight) for at least an hour after and don’t eat in that time. I really think sliding hiatal hernia is behind a lot more sleep and sleep-breathing troubles than anyone acknowledges because this weird thing has transformed my sleep.
There is no scientific evidence that this would help against hiatal hernia
If it works for him, it works for him.
Even if its placebo, it works for him.
Mild OSA diagnosis (same as last time). It was a very unpleasant night but at some point during it I got 3 hours of sleep in a row. I have an appointment with my sleep doctor next week to discuss CPAP and/or other options.
Good luck.
Consider an added bonus of CPAP: For me, the overnight pressure results in better sinus health, and far fewer colds. This boon is huge for me.
There is very little scientific research done at all into any exercise or bodywork practice that corrects hiatal hernia. But this exercise has been used for a very long time in many cultures. It’s simply weighting the stomach with water so that the whole of it moves below the diaphragm where it should be. The idea is that, for some people, doing this repeatedly will train the body to keep it there. It’s simply using weight/gravity to retrain muscles, just like most exercise. It definitely corrected my hiatal hernia and my mother’s. And it has helped my sleep tremendously.
Actually, a lot of sites seem to promote physical therapy to strengthen the core and reduce pressure on the stomach.
I think it’s great that it helped you in multiple ways!
Exercise is seen as something which might help for this disease but drinking large amounts is pretty much the opposite what is recommend to not worsen the condition
Not food, but perhaps a helpful technique.
Here to say that this works pretty well for me. Judging by the past three nights.
