We used to use Granny Smith’s for pies. Lately I’ve been using Honeycrisp because I have them on hand, but they cost more than Granny Smiths.

I made a mixed apple crumble with 3 different varieties of apples that I had on hand in January, and 2 of the types of apples turned to mush. One of the apples that became mushy was McIntosh. I can’t remember what the other variety was.
