Finally Suspended!!

I told them the way things are going soon their checks will read unemployment at the top. That got me a temporary suspension but I didn’t know it because I changed my provider / e-mail address and didn’t get their suspension notice. I created a new account with the new e-mail address & they permanently suspended me for “Trolling” with a 2nd account. I explained the whole e-mail debacle but dearest Marssy didn’t want to hear it. No bother, the CH site was more aggravation than it was worth.

Hi, Midlife:

Yes, that was the one. In my case, one of the apologist cabal (Bob Martinez) actually posted that he was going to flag. In the tiny minds, I think this is welcome pretext for whatever they want to do. This “cover” aspect is what’s always driven me batshit crazy about CH’s moderation–they urge everyone to flag EVERYTHING, and then pick and choose who to censor based on something OTHER than the “rules”.

At least they kept some of the bad aspects of CH in place!

I never enjoyed this tattle tale mentality - they never enabled messaging so posters can not speak directly to one another but encourage backstabbing via flagging putting the moderators at the center of some sort of childish power game.

And there are/were mods who blatantly had it in for some folks and mollycoddled others.

Seriously.

Right. You must grovel at least a smidge. You can’t just ask to be reinstated. Spoken by the voice of experience

I got reprimanded for posting that I was going to flag something!

In itself, this is a good thing. As anyone who spends time on unmoderated boards will testify, the alternative leads to folk taking it on themselves to “deal” with the offenders on open forum. It gets unpleasant very quickly. However, as you suggest, it is then very important that moderation is consistent and even-handed.

Kaleohahu-

As an expatriate from Hawaii, I have especially enjoyed your posts about restaurants there and cooking utensils. On the latter, I should have paid more attention as I purchased copper cookware on EBay that was more show than go. Anyway, I just wanted to thank you.

Like not a few people, I am done with CH.

Hi, Harters:

I take your point. Still, I think reasonable minds can prefer the results of NO moderation to the kind of feckless, pretextual, disingenuous moderation that CH made famous.

“it is then very important that moderation is consistent and even-handed”

And CH was becoming increasingly not so.

there’s an important difference between un-moderated boards and un-attended boards.

I once had cause to seek out special topic resources - found a message board - it was stem to stern spam, mostly of the porn type. it was un-attended - no one of authority paid any attention to anything posted, so the place just went wild.

otoh, I do not support the ‘we’re all adults here so there is no moderation’ simply because there are internet cretins that go seriously out bounds to normal behavior. sooner or later somebody has to dump them.

I really can’t hold CH moderators ‘personally’ responsible - they are hired help, they do as they are told and ‘enforce’ policies not set by them and whether they as moderator agree with the policy or not. it starts actually with Leff’s recent opinion - hardly a lovefest warm&fuzzy of “out with the old, in with the new, change is good”

CH is not the mods ‘baby’ - they have nothing invested in the site - they have no topical posts, no recipes, no cooking experience posts, absolutely zip comma zero. “I’m here for the check” and that’s the end of their investment.

I can, and I will. Some of the emails I received were flat-out bitchy rants sent by someone who had decided that I needed to be taught a lesson. Verbal abuse would not be a misnomer for some of the shit I’ve received.

I can appreciate that. I was spared such, but I have not a single quidget believing your experience.

Yeah, and I would like anyone who supports CH Moderator’s or CH MGMT to quote material from any management / leadership textbook that supports & encourages such conduct.

Congratulations. But I will miss your zingers.

Someone thinks they’re being clever. I noticed the same on the UK threads. The joke is on them.

In all fairness, are you seriously suggesting that the resurrection of old topics is something new at CH? How is this, something that has happened all the time for years and years, clever (presume you are suggesting a hidden agenda?).
