Favourite Alternatives to Classic Poutine Recipes

I think fresh, squeaky cheese curds are key, but that’s just me.

For me poutine was always Fries with Gravy and Cheese curds because that is all I knew.
Then at an Italian Restaurant, they did their take on the Classic Poutine dish.
Gnocchi “pillows” with a drizzle of veal stock reduction, goat cheese and fried onions.
As @Harters described gnocchi as “so lush” and it truly was. So no longer a purist and was completely converted after my first bite.

And now, a word about Poutine from Chuck Hughes:

And here is his recipe.

This is why I doubt many restos have it. This is perfect street food. Fresh out of the pubs, and there you go: poutine. Soak up some of that cheer.

I like to see so many breaking out of the box. I wouldn’t hesitate for a second to try the gnocchi poutine.

Poutine is best at 2 am, after the bar.

Many restos have it. It’s a very popular appetizer to share. It is as popular as wings or nachos at pubs in Canada. While poutine trucks exist, poutine isn’t a street food. It started as truck stop food, became pub food/ greasy spoon food, and now it’s found everywhere, at many levels of restaurants.

It’s possible to upgrade to poutine from fries as a side, in many parts of Canada.

It shouldn’t surprise me. I’m too hazy on poutine to see it might make a nice app. I guess I see it more as “last supper for the day” food. No wonder it’s popular in restos, though. I’d just be afraid, like chips and salsa at Mexican places, I’d fill up on the app., and eat half the meal.

I feel the same way about döner. Sure, you can order it at most Turkish restaurants here in Berlin, at any time of the day, but to me, it’s best eaten at 2AM to soak up the booze consumed.

Currywurst? Same thing. It’s drunk food.
