Looks like it’s available at my Wegmans…and I just so happen to be going there this weekend!
Will see what flavors they carry.
It is, at least at our Wegmans. Graeter’s, too ![]()
Graeter’s . . . Jeni’s . . . who knew Ohio was so good at ice cream LOL.
That said, growing up in Milwaukee - give me frozen custard anytime too (shout out to Kopp’s - though I’m not trying to start a frozen custard fight).
WTAF??? The Biscuits and Peach, and Candy Bar are SO calling my name! I still have most of a half gallon of Tillamook in my downstairs freezer, and I have no room for anything else, dammit!
Gotta work on that. ![]()
Talenti is my default safe choice - I know it’s going to be at least good, probably really good. (Unless it’s been mishandled by the store.) The pumpkin pie one they have around now is in the really good category… Crust chunks, pumpkin ice cream. Goes down way too easy; dangerous for me to have in the house.
I love marshmallows, but haven’t had a decent one in 50+ years. When I lived in Uganda I used to buy them made by a British company, and really enjoyed them, but haven’t had any here that I like. I’ve been meaning to make them myself…….one of these days…..
HEB Creamy Creations No Sugar Added. Sorry. Butter pecan only became my must-have-on-hand variety in the last year and a half or so and I don’t remember any I may have had earlier. Possibly Dreyer’s but it was not a favorite flavor if I had it. Certainly not Breyer’s. Can’t remember if I’ve even had Blue Bell or HEB’s regular version before I started opting for the No Sugar Added varieties.
No doubt best ever however was Hank’s, a local ice cream shop with only one location, now closed because of the age of the founder. It was their most renowned flavor and offered for dessert at several eateries around town. When you went in an asked for a sample they’d give you almost a whole bowlful then just stand there smiling, waiting for you to say how much you wanted to buy to take home to pig out on (or share).
Is it the quality of the pecans that’s an issue for you? It is for me.
Does Tillamook still come in half gallons?
Yeah. It takes up a lot of real estate. Deservedly so.
OH, I"m jealous. I need to go out and get some Jeni’s now. Jeni’s and left over Halloween candy in the house . . . it’s going to be rough LOL
I really wish I tried Jeni’s when I was still making frequent road trips though Ohio
Well, it’s 1.5 qts. Nothing is as it was before marketing shrunk packaging and kept the same price. Let’s just call it the “larger container”. It’s why it stays in my downstairs fridge-freezer: out of sight, out of mind.
Until I see the flavors Jeni’s has, that is. ![]()
actually, trader joe’s is a real half gallon — their french vanilla is quite good.
Yeah, I wasn’t sure if Tillamook was part of the shrinkflation conspiracy or not. Costco is holding the line on their vanilla ice cream. You get a gallon (two half gallon cartons)!
The flavor that launched my ice cream obsession. I subsequently got Jeni’s recipe for home cooks for this flavor, and it came out so well on the very first try that I became a student of homemade ice cream.
“Brambleberry” is just a term for berries that grow on thorny bushes - like raspberries and blackberries. “Crisp” is a ribbon of the sweet oat-based crisp you often find on top of baked fruit dishes.
It’s so good.

I don’t like marshmallows, but I have made them (as a gift for my ex, who’s of like mind with you), and homemade taste…like marshmallows, natch, but they have a much nicer texture than commercial, nice and tender. It can even be done with a decent hand-held mixer, which is all I had at the time (provided you have someone who can pour the hot sugar syrup for you).
Nice. I’m not usually a fruity ice cream kinda gal, but I do like berries and crispy stuff!
I know I’ll sound like a broken record, but I just keep buying the Tillamook hazelnut chocolate. Yeah, it’s that fucking good. Toasty hazelnuts, rivers of chocolate-hazelnut fudge, and rich chocolate ice cream.
Def #1. And I replenished the mocha almond fudge, too. Gotta have variety after all ![]()
I meant to post this earlier this week. David Muir from ABC World News Tonight has a “Made In America” thing he does every year at the holidays. He’ll highlight Christmas tree growers, local clothing manufacturers who use products only sourced in the U.S., footballs, guitars, towels that Marriott will be using in their hotels and, of course, food items.
On Tuesday night, he highlighted Van Leeuwen Ice Cream by going to one of their NYC ice cream shops (of 100 across the country) and taste-testing lots and lots and lots and LOTS of samples. (Lucky him!) He noted that they only use the Zeroll Ice Cream Scoop. The scoops are made in Avondale, PA, outside of Philadelphia, and are the quintessential ice cream scoop!
Van Leeuwen has scoop shops, but you can also buy pints in grocery stores. I’ve seen them in my local Market Basket and Hannaford, and I plan to try some out once I finish the pint of Graeter’s Black Raspberry Chocolate Chip ice cream (which is SO FREAKING GOOD!) I’ll have to get more Graeter’s as well. LOL
