Title pretty much says it all: I’m going to need to purchase some reusable, airtight storage tubs to hold this year’s Christmas cookies, before they get plated and delivered.
I think the tubs should be plastic and stackable - my hands are not trustworthy enough to handle glass containers (which are my general preference for food storage).
I’m not even sure what size I should be looking for - hoping to fit double batches/72-80 2-3 inch cookies which will be stacked on one another.
If you don’t mind shopping Amazon, something like these (Cyber Monday deal) might be your best bet. Each holds 8 lbs of spaghetti. I imagine you can fit a lot of cookies in each. I’d add a layer of plastic wrap on top as well before adding the lid.
Otherwise, going to Ocean State Job Lot or a local Dollar Store might have a decent airtight plastic container style that would work for you.
I have a mix of tall tub-type containers (plastic containers and metal tins) that I use for sturdy cookies- those that are sturdy enough to stack many layers deep.
I often layer in some parchment anyway, and if the cookies require moisture to avoid drying out, I will put half a piece of cheap white bread every other layer. The more air-tight the layers, the more bread I use.
Then, I have a bunch of very wide but short containers I use for more fragile cookies I don’t want to stack too deep. Here’s a Rubbermaid container (hand for scale) I use for this. I might stack them two or three deep in there, max. Some cookies I don’t stack at all (those are a pain to store!) Next to the Rubbermaid container is a big rectangular cake safe I also use for cookie storage.
Thanks for the swift responses - due to being semi-housebound at the moment I’m unable to get to the Dollar Store or places of that ilk. So I have ordered the tubs @LindaWhit linked to; not only were they on sale, but a set of eight was an even better deal!
(My previous storage tubs were in a storage area … and got gnawed up by rodents. Not a fun discovery!)
A knock-off Rubbermaid-like material. Semi-transparent and had a small amount of flex. Purchased years ago and had been exposed to different temperatures (stored in garages in Florida and Northern California, in an unfinished basement here in Pasadena).
Rodents also got into multiple storage boxes and chewed through a couple of power tool cords, too. Plus tore into a pack of paper towels and dragged the rolls some distance.
