Dubai chocolate

Dubai-ness is spreading. My local specialty grocer now is selling Dubai brownies at twice the price of their other brownies. They look like brownies with a green middle layer. The truth comes out in the long ingredient list. The last item on the list (lowest amount) is pistachio paste. I passed.

Shame. It’s very good when it’s done well, but so many have jumped on that train it’s no surprise most products are disappointing & of low quality.

I finally succumbed to the siren’s song that is Dubai chocolate when I spotted this bag at Costco today. Individually wrapped squares, about a 1½" across. USD15.59 for 15 pieces, so pricewise is pretty cheap compared to what some of you have been finding. They’re ok. Probably won’t buy them again, unless Costco starts selling a dark chocolate variety.

Big question: When will they break out the pumpkin spice Dubai chocolate?

I’m genuinely surprised they haven’t yet.

Indeed they have!

The other specialty grocer near me just started selling Dubai brownies at $3.99 each, for small individually wrapped squares. The square is just big enough to allow printing of the long ingredient list. Among the long list of things I would never bake with is - - - oops no pistachio of any kind.

Bizarre. Any kadaif?

I think just having the word ‘Dubai’ on the label is now an excuse to charge a premium for anything.

Dubai now just means “do buy.”

DON’T DO IT!

I posted about these back on Sept 30 in this thread (I’d link to my post but I don’t know how). Not worth it, IMO.

I wouldn’t, for one thing I don’t like milk chocolate.

Saw this at our Asian market yesterday. Pretty full bag, but $17.99 is a non-starter.

agree.

Seen among my local market’s panettone selection…

I saw the Lindt version for $16.99 at my local Harris Teeter and passed. The Fresh Market likewise had some Bee Max Dubai bars for around that much. I decided to order this one for a considerable discount (with free shipping) from OT:

Will be in my DH’s stocking. The ingredients list looks good – better than the Bee Max for sure.
