Here is more background information from the chef about the high cost and the reasons, e.g. large number of employees are coming from Denmark etc. In addition, the price includes beverage pairings, tax and all tips. It is very expensive but not unusual for 3 star restaurants

A fool and their money soon part.. :man_facepalming:

folks who have the finances are paying that much for VIP music experiences which might not last as long as that meal.

i don’t see myself ever eating such a meal, for i will always be part of the great unwashed.

You phrased that much nicer than I ever would.

Hopefully everybody, including the interns get paid this time, given Noma was so used to free labour.

Why the hell they need to transport and house 130 people from Denmark?!! It doesn’t sound very ecological.

Pssssst… carbon footprints only count when lesser folk create them

Agreed, they should be hiring local talent instead of importing “foreign labour “

Abusing your staff and taking advantage of underpaid labor requires charging customers a lot of money.

Imagine having enough loose change to throw 4 figures at a meal.

Of course, they will also need to pay for work permits for them.

Must be terribly hard to get local staff

Allow me to offer an alternative viewpoint- if seeing Lebron courtside in a random regular season game cost $1000, and Taylor Swift is charging $1000 a ticket at the SoFi Stadium, then why can’t Redzepi charge $1500 for a meal given he’s also considered one of the premier practitioner in his profession, just like the other two are top of their professions too?

There are always folks who can afford luxuries in life. These folks will always pay for a luxury box at Crypto Com Arena, or time pieces that are tens of thousands of dollars, or mansions that cost $30m to build in Beverly Hills. It seems more acceptable when the artistic and sporting talents make their money, e.g. Ohtani and his $700 million Dodgers contract. But if a chef has an opportunity to make some money from the folks who can afford it, then criticisms follow. I know the comparison is a bit of apples and oranges that a chef can’t cook for 18000 or 70000 a night and that’s why they can’t get paid as much. But I’ll offer a contrarian point of view- precisely because they can’t scale, let the chefs charge as much as what people are willing to pay for. Just like let the artisans who make the $50k watch and build the $30m mansion charge for what they can.

If someone is willing to pay $100k a night to eat food from top chefs, let those culinary artisans get that money too. They will never have a $700M payday, simply because they are in a profession that doesn’t scale.

there’s a reason they choose Krazyfornia for a 16 week “pop-up”

not many in the ‘other parts’ of the country are crazy enough to even think about it.

can you imagine the cost if they choose to do a 10 course pris fixe dinner on the moon? it is possible, just a ueber-tad pricey thing . . .

If Lebron was charging for bringing his own fans, treated the fans poorly and made sure all the other players were not fairly compensated it would be totally comparable.

This is, I think, two and a half times what a meal at KOKS in Greenland cost, back when that was happening.

I find all of these price tags equally insane :woman_shrugging:t2:
