Curious food items you've seen, but have no interest in buying or trying

I see a lot of foods / food products for sale that catch my eye, but often not in a good way.

Since the existing thread about food items peeps discovered & actually bought doesn’t seem like a good place to park such items, I thought I’d create a home for them here.

I’ll start:

Here are some desiccated, sliced strawberries at one of our favorite German supermarket chains. Perhaps even more jarring given we’re smack-dab in the middle of the German strawberry season, with the sweetest strawberries I’ve had.

:face_with_open_eyes_and_hand_over_mouth:

Chocolate with salt licorice. That’s a hard no.

Chocolate with “cheesecake” filling. Ditto.

I’d try the cheesecake chocolates, but not the other 2. Are those strawberries a snack item, or are they used for other applications like baking or other cooking related uses?

Beats me. Maybe as an addition to granola or cornflakes, or… GRAPENUTS?

I honestly don’t know. I don’t understand the point of dehydrated fruit, but evidently they serve a purpose :woman_shrugging:t2:

POCKY is a popular chocolate covered biscuit snack amongst kids.

Blue tins are WHISKEY flavored. Red tins are WINE flavored. Start ‘em off young.

Don’t knock it 'til you try it. I’m not a licorice fan, in general, but I got quite hooked on these after the initial “hmm, I’m not sure whether I like this or not”.

I’ve had it. My mom was a huge fan of salmiakki, so I occasionally would try them to see if maybe I’d like them — nope, not my cuppa. Even if you covered it in pistachio paste and chocolate

I do have interest in all of these but I’m avoiding sweets and chips right now, and for the foreseeable future. I haven’t bought of these new products.

That unicorn Ritter Sport is a true abomination. Someone in PR musta dropped acid to come up with that

I’m actually intrigued by it. I’ll see if I come across it during my Germany/Austria travels.

While I agree with you and would never buy this for myself, my teenage niece LOVES strangely colored and flavored snacks. I bet she’d be thrilled with it, even if just to see the look of utter confusion on my face.

I had to look that one up. Then i chuckled.
“TFTOFTT”

What is it? I got a lot of video game links when I Googled it.

Thanks for taking one for the team

Perhaps would be good for French toast or bread pudding?

The added grains and seeds take the brioche out of brioche! It’s not supposed to have fibre.

It’s supposed be Marie Antoinette posh bread. :joy:

It’s like multigrain croissants. They should not exist. But they do.

I’m sure any of these brioche breads would be fine in French toast/ bread pudding as you suggest, or an apple betty.
