costco yay/nay/meh

Just a possible warning about our experience with Rana brand Lasagna Primavera bought at Costco in Irvine, CA last week. Prepared in oven per package instructions. The texture was a bit slimy and unique for lasagna but it tasted just fine. Problem was my wife was up half the night with diarrhea Unfortunately she took the leftover portion to work and had it for lunch. Same result. YMMV of course, but thought I’d put this out there.

Sounds like bad storage along the way

Thank you for checking that out and reporting back to us!

Thanks for the warning!

I’m experiencing buyer’s regret over purchasing a large bottle of the Japanese Bachan’s sauce, has anyone put it to good use?

I have that, and really enjoy it. I often use it as a meat marinade, and I’ve also used it as a base for adding flavorings to use in place of a barbecue sauce. About a year or two ago, my local Stop & Shop was having deals on pork ribs every month or so, and I was experimenting with sous vide ribs. After sous vide, and when I was ready to roast as a final step before eating, I would rub the home made sauce to glaze the ribs and they came out really tasty.

This is interesting. Many of these products are completely unknown to me. I’ve never encountered any fellow shopper in my state’s Costcos (WA) buying the fish sticks.

Whatever can be gleaned about popularity from “social metrics,” I don’t know how much of it can be usefully extrapolated about Costco shoppers’ preferences as a whole (let alone actual sales).

quite the issue!

#1, what % of people shop at Costco?
#2, of that %, what % of those are coupon clipping for a mega-discount store?

well, let’s just make up some data and see how it flies!
The coupon aggregation site . . . couponbirds.com
The analysis didn’t source sales data from Costco . . . i.e. totally bogus/incomplete/inaccurate/non-realistic/ etc etc etc

I have the gluten-free version and use it as a general stir-fry sauce, eg any type of protein + vegetables + rice/noodles. There are also some recipes on the company’s
website.

I’m in CA, not WA, but I buy the fish sticks every couple of years. They make it easy to get decent fish tacos on the table in 15 minutes. Not great fish tacos, but good enough for me.

I’m sure it’s a fine product, just never seen anyone buying it in the 25 years I’ve stood in Costco’s checkout lines. Now that I think about it, I’ve never noticed the product for sale in the freezers, either.

FWIW, I think they’re the ones most highly rated by ATK.

I’m in MN, and I buy a bag every couple of months. Easy fish tacos for a quick meal with quick clean up. Great for when activities run late and the hoard is hungry

“The analysis didn’t source sales data from Costco but rather examined 50 popular hashtags and posts regarding Costco products across social media platforms including Facebook, X (formerly known as Twitter), Instagram, and Reddit.

This methodology found the 30 most discussed Costco products as of March 2024. The number of comments about each product, along with Google trends data, was used to rank the 30 products in popularity, by state. “

That’d be par for the course.

Been shopping at WA Costco for 20+ years. I have never noticed them either. I don’t doubt they are there but if it was such a popular item I think I would have noticed.
