Coronavirus - what to stock up on?

On Let’s Make A Deal this morning the big deal of the day was a 6-pack of 2-ply toilet paper.

Just placed the online order for our next supermarket delivery. This is with our 5th choice supermarket - one we would never usually shop at, but it was the only one where we could score a delivery slot. Was able to order virtually everything on our list - the main “out of stock” was flour - but who knows what will actually arrive.

I’ll see if I can order some online @naf - thanks.

I got your “BIG Deal” right here!

Roughly (the price, but hopefully not the TP) $100 per month, for those with discretionary income who want assurance and have unlimited storage space!

$1000/mo plus $200 delivery? $1200/year for tp? $100/month for what I’d usually spend $5 per month? Thanks, but no thanks.

It’s really time the government steps in to stop the price gouging. You now want to charge me $10 or $12 . . . ok. But $1000?

It was not meant as a recommendation. That said, their business is booming. I suppose ~$2 a roll isn’t too much for (some) folks who are desperate enough.

But is it too much for min wage workers? SNAP recipients have already been told they can’t get deliveries (stay out of markets on the 1st and 2nd days of the month when SNAP benefits kick in).

Could I afford $2/roll? Sure. Should I? Hell no.

Of COURSE it’s too much. Thought that was clear. You could afford it but wouldn’t buy it. Not even a choice for me, since I can’t. But there are probably people reading this thread who can, and might.

The internet site for HGTV has a small feature on bidets starting at $79.95. Supposedly, DIY on any existing toilet.

It was announced that I should receive my half lamb yesterday morning, then yesterday afternoon, then today morning and now today afternoon. As long as it is in a cold truck, it won’t be too big an issue, I hope.

I once had a meat order that was promised to be delivered on a Saturday, but the delivery van vanished without news, finally the purchase arrived on Monday, but it was those days express delivery with gel packs in ordinary trucks. Gel was in liquid form, meat juice and blood swam in the sealed packages and were lukewarm. 200€ into the trash, the boss (a young guy from a startup) came around to take some photos to file claim from the transport company. Such a waste of quality meat although I got a full refund.

We had similar a couple of years ago. They had promised delivery on a Friday morning. It hadnt turned up by early afternoon so I rang them (as I knew they didnt deliver over the weekend). I said that if it wasnt delivered by the late afternoon I would not accept delivery. It arrived, just in time, at about 17.30 (and was still cold, so no problem).

I’m moving into the black market toilet paper business.

Having failed to buy any on our last two Tesco home delivery orders, I decided to go a-Googling. At one point, I used to earn my living as a buyer and I thought I am not going to be defeated over this. It took a little while but I found a pack of 72 available for immediate delivery. I ordered. Meanwhile, my companion in life, who also earned a living as a purchasing manager, had had much the same thought, without my knowledge, and scored a 32 pack. So, we now have probably enough bog rolls to last the crisis. Anyone wanna buy a roll - only 5 of your local currency - sterling, euros, dollars (American, Canadian, Australian, etc). Plus P & P, of course.

My local currency in New Jersey is ants. I’ll put five of the little buggers in an envelope for today’s mail.

Hell @Harters, I’d hold out for Krugerrands, if I were in your enviable position.

They have some bidets on Costco online. I highly recommend the Brondell brand FYI.

seal - just address it to “Harters, UK”. It should be fine

Lambchop - I knew a guy who invested in Krugerrands. He buried them under the shrubs that surround his property. It was his hedge against inflation.

Lol :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

Is it safe to go outside?

Even if coronavirus particles can move through the air, they would still diffuse over distance. “People envision these clouds of viruses roaming through the streets coming after them, but the risk of [infection] is higher if you’re closer to the source,” says Linsey Marr, who studies airborne disease transmission at Virginia Tech. “The outside is great as long as you’re not in a crowded park.”

@auspicious sounds familiar:

“You could tie yourself in knots gaming out the various scenarios that might pose a risk outdoors, but Marr recommends a simple technique. “When I go out now, I imagine that everyone is smoking, and I pick my path to get the least exposure to that smoke,” she told me. If that’s the case, I asked her, is it irrational to hold your breath when another person walks past you and you don’t have enough space to move away? “It’s not irrational; I do that myself,” she said. “I don’t know if it makes a difference, but in theory it could. It’s like when you walk through a cigarette plume.””

Be sure they have plenty of food and water.

We had a lady at work in the rather large store I worked in and she found an ant in the warehouse. She took it outside and released it.

I found a praying mantis on a shopping cart and let it go in the bushes outside. I don’t think I’d ever seen one before.

I draw the line at saving ants.
