Corona dining Houston

Sure they can. We get take-out oysters all the time, eat them in the car and toss the shells out the window. We do the same with crawfish. Crabs can be a bit messy but they are doable. :skunk: :skunk: :skunk:

I wish I knew. I don’t see people ordering oysters as much as they used to, raw or fried.

Walsh, Caswell, and Southern Foodways got their wish with skyrocketing oyster prices. The main push was to get appellation oysters on menus which I’ve never seen.

Maybe I don’t go to enough fancy places. :sunglasses:

Bay Bay? Who writes this stuff?!

“I think restaurants can’t or won’t do raw oyster takeout/delivery.”

We were in Galveston a couple months ago and I called Gaidos to see if we could get some oysters on the half to go. He said no…not raw oysters. I put it down to liability concerns on their part. If that’s the case, can’t say I blame them.

Apparently that’s the case with some restaurants in Houston area also, or so it is said on Local foods Facebook pages. I knew in the beginning a restaurant called aBouzy would send an employee out to your house with the oysters and shuck them at your doorstep, not sure if they’re still doing that.

I went and saw Bagel Bob this morning. I picked up a plain toasted bagel with lox spread. Pretty tasty, and I’m good for the day. He’s now serving hotdogs, A few deli sandwiches and salads, and New York cheesecake. https://www.bbnytx.com/

I’m always on the lookout for a good hot dog. :hotdog:

Well there’s one Hebrew National and one Boar’s Head, as I recall so not sure if they are good or not.

Sounds like a wiener to me!

This from Yelp about extreme multi-millionaire disgruntled soon to be ex Texans quarterback Deshaun Watson and his cheesesteak place.

“This place is so awful I don’t even know where to begin. Food is inedible and when I asked to speak to the owner the cashier said he has officially asked to work at Subway instead. What a loser”

He wants to open five locations. Good luck with that. I’ll loan him some money when he runs out but it will be from one of my change jars and he’ll have to go to Kroger to cash it in. :skunk: :football:

More bad news. Burt’s Meat Market on Lyons Ave. in The Nickel is closing 3/31.

A trip for beef tips and boudin is necessary.

Might not be looking good for those cheesesteak restaurants now. 17 so far. Then again, you never know how it will all turn out in this day and age.

What’s his cheesesteak place called?

Lefty’s and the way things are going Deshaun is going to run out of money sooner rather than later.

The restaurant will be rebranded and called Rusty’s. :upside_down_face:

There is a sports card collectors show in town and I took a shoe box of my best cards that I paid pennies for in the 60’s and turned them into several thousand dollars.

I rewarded myself and the Wifeacita who was a big help with a trip to Laurenzo’s.

I’ve had two failed attempts at getting a prime rib cooked the way I like it which is rare. One was Salt Grass and the other Laurenzo’s and both were medium at best.

I assured the waiter if it wasn’t red it would be sent back. It came out perfectly rare and was delicious. I must say as I get older I can no longer feed in huge quantities like I used to even ten years ago. Twelve ounces filled me up.

Doobs there is also a tattoo convention in town at the NRG so you can add to your collection. Talk about a freak show.

Very cool! We couldn’t get a rare at Taste of Texas either. The problem lies in it necessarily being baked earlier and someone else getting the coveted rare center I think. I’m road tripping and had a marvy smoked soft shell at Clancy’s NOLA last night. :yum:

Thanks for the heads up on the tattoo convention but alas, as I look around I find myself in the Algarve region of Portugal so adding to my (nonexistent) ink collection is not in the cards.

Before anyone gets jealous, I’m here to bring my newly widowed favorite aunt back to Texas. My favorite uncle passed two weeks ago today and I’ve been here a week now. I expect to be here through the end of the month helping my aunt settle affairs and escort her through a rather arduous journey in the age of Covid.

I’m mostly cooking on unfamiliar equipment, (typing this out on my phone, I just burned the garlic bread!!). I can’t tell you how many times I’ve asked Siri to convert F to C. She’s starting to get snippy, I kid you not!

I’ve had salmon and a whole sea bass out that were fantastic. The charcuterie counter at the local grocery, Appolonia, is my new favorite twelve feet in the whole world. It backs up to the European version of Aldi which is cool but eerily familiar. Products are totally different but layout and vibe very similar.

Additionally, I’ve had more alcohol in the last week than I’ve had in the last year in Houston, but there is quite a stock I need to finish off.

Pray for me.

Good story, Except for the family loss though of course. I had a lovely time eating through Spain years ago but didn’t hop over to Portugal. Take lots of pictures and bring Port. :portugal:

That is beautiful. In my opinion and I don’t care what anybody else thinks the Gulf Coast blue crab is the best tasting food in the Solar System.
