Commercially made foods that are no longer made

Isn’t “success” a relative concept? I’m not clear there are any big-selling high end soups out there, in cans or pouches or even glass. Does any other brand of such a product significantly outsell Campbell’s Yes line for example? I don’t know.

What defines high end soups?
Ones you don’t have to add liquid to?

Certainly not adding liquid defines “more expensive”

Interesting!

Well, when some jarred soups cost $12 or $13 of $14 a piece, as some do, to me that’s a niche market. Rao’s has jarred soups that are certainly more costly than Campbell’s red cans. I guess they’re successful if they don’t lose money.

This wasn’t expensive, but it’s one of the pouch soups Campbells discontinued.

Collard & Bowser butterscotch was a casualty of the contraction of the UK’s traditional confectionary industry. I still miss it!

It’s been ages since I saw LifeSavers Butter Rum or Tropical Fruits.

Safeway has a pretty large variety of refrigerated soups in the deli which I quite like.

As for the pantry… I keep a number of cans of Progresso which I doctor a bit before serving.

Chickarina had all but disappeared a few years ago. It came back it’s very doctorable

They used to be a check stand impulse item, other candies, more expensive? replaced them. They maybe on the candy aisle, but in bags, also try the convenience stores for rolls.

Choc-O-Mint Lifesavers!
But plenty else. All ingredients that were in use when we were young have been replaced by more chemically-derived ones. Remember when snack cakes (like Drake’s) had LARD as shortening?

I know Target still carries the tropical fruit. A quick search reveals I can pick up bags of butter rum at my local Wawa or Walmart if I ever actually went to Walmart.

Most definitely. It tasted right but it look wrong, so it went the way of the dodo.

I used to be a fan of their tomato-basil bisque. It is hard to find and it seems they are fazing out the soup case since the Albertson’s merger. I have never seen the lobster soup there. The Albertson’s is about 24 miles away from our Safeway. The next time I’m over there, I’ll check that out.

Both sizes are in stock at our local Safeway (which is in a pretty small town)…

Sure. That’s one reason they were never allowed in my kosher house (along with Oreos), and why I didn’t try them until my HS cafeteria started carrying them.
