You know they do something similar in Serbia and Croatia called a cevapcici. It’s like a little oval meat patty made from highly seasoned beef and lamb or pork, usually grilled.
Those things are kick a$$ !

Viking yes those are the seasoned beef patties but they are kind or round. I actually found them to be the least desirable of the meat selections on the mixed grill, but maybe it was an off day. I have only tried it once but will try it again soon.
Hey if you see two dumb looking fat guys tomorrow crabbing flag us down and we will buy a sandwich or two
( Digs out Greek/English dictionary ) Yep, they were called that.
Recognition could be difficult, we may just think we are seeing our own reflection in the water and miss you.
At least it looks like it will be a little cooler, it’s smokin out there right now.
And my lawn looks like crispy critters.
Yes that looks a lot like it. I was looking at it as if it was just a hamburger patty but was pleasantly surprised by the flavor, especially what I suspect was lamb mixed in with the beef. I’ve only had one other lamb burger at the Brickhouse in Neptune, I was very dissapointed in the flavor, the only difference between it and a pure beef burger was the consistency.
So it was this complete surprise by how good it was vs. my expectations that made it my favorite. The sausage was also very good, but the high salt content made my opinion of it sour the more I ate it.
CJ-
re Harolds,
We’ve been debating about sending the jr guy on my team@ work on a Harolds run for brisket, pickles, and potato pancakes (plus a piece of cake) for about 2 weeks now…BTW- we work in mercer county…other choice is Carluccios in Marlboro…can’t lose either way…
Let me start by saying I’ve been following the NJ threads, but held back on voicing my opinions. When I read what Metsfan wanted to order from Harold’s I knew I had to add my 2 cents worth. Yes - I go to Harold’s every so often with a group of friends. While it’s not great by any means it is fun. But my one piece of advice would be DON’T order the potato pancakes! IMHO - They don’t taste anything like a real potato pancake…and they don’t taste good.
You know potato pancakes (rievkooch, or kartoffelpuffer) are just so easy to make fresh and taste so much better hot from the pan, that I hardly ever order them at a deli where they are usually reheated and greasy.
No, but Mark successfully did the “Deathwing” challenge at Gimpy’s in Highlands many years ago. You had to sign a waiver beforehand, and all you got was your name in a book (and the wings free, of course). Apparently only about 25% of the people who tried finished them.
Let me start by saying WELCOME!!! Please feel free to share more advice with us! Glad to have you join us!
I’ll +1 Carluccio’s over Harolds.
I’ll +1 both Harold’s and Carluccio’s. The only things I get at Harold’s are the pastrami and the Matzoh Ball Soup, but we love them both. Corned beef we can get closer to home but I’ve never had bad pastrami at Harold’s. If you want Italian deli instead then Carluccio’s is great. I love the fact that usually while we wait there is enough food brought out free that we are almost full before we even leave with our sandwiches.
Yes!
Carluccios yes I agree, huge portions friendly service wth generous samples.
Harold’s havent been there in a while but always seemed to me a lot of shock and awe regarding volume of servings.
I enjoy both … But I find I crave Carluccios occasionally
Harold’s not so much
jr., (In the “better late than never” category…) Mega-Congrats on your amazing gustatory accomplishment! Well-deserving of that special HO medal you were awarded by Sampson. Sorry I couldn’t be there to witness it.
You are always a welcome contributor! (FYI I don’t know if your ears were ringing Thurs. night but your name did come up in conversation a couple times that night, only good I assure you) Thank you for the kind words. lol
That’s so sweet! Now I’m doubly sorry I wasn’t able to be there so that you all could have said those nice things to me in person! lol
I am SO SAD I missed this epic event!!!
Good work Jr, you are my hero.
