Christmas Culinaria?

These are from Wed following Christmas. She decided the maiden voyage of her stand mixer should be marshmallows. Sugar, water, gelatin, a little syrup, and a bit of vanilla.

I swapped the chef’s knife for another Santoku, which as it happens, is what the receipt said, and what husband thought he bought .

It took two tries to return it at the Vacaville outlets. The fellow at the store said he would have kept it, since it costs a bit more.

The first time he brought back the 10 inch chef knife. All the boxes are the same, and the boxes are unmarked, so it’s sort of like “3 card monte” , with tight cardboard bands adding to the mystique.

I hope to try it out making some poke today.

Nice. I would enjoy that one more than the chef’s knife. My old Henckels Santuko is one of my most frequently used knives. How long is that one?

Oh nice. That is much easier to you. I didn’t say this earlier… When you said the Chef’s knife was 10 inch long, I thought your husband tried to pull a fast one on you. Basically, he bought “you” something that you will give it to him. That almost like a guy buy a video game system for his girflfriend.

Yeah, it is true the 10" inch knife likely will cost more than a short Santoku, but … on the other hand, why uses something difficult to use just because it is more expensive.

The website says it is 7 inches. The outlet price seems to be a significant savings over that list price. My old Henckels Santoku is ground to a nub! That one is definitely the most used in the house. A few weeks ago I rescued it from the sink. :rage:

I have once rescued my knife from a garbage can. That was many years ago. To this day, I don’t know what would inspire someone to toss another person knife into a trash can.
To the person who did this… if you are reading it. What is WRONG with you?

So nice.

I’m giving my daughter some knives! She’s actually getting into cooking! :astonished:

I’m wondering if this is going to be like foster care; she says it’s an adoption.

Bye!

She would be so happy if only you give her that Zwilling Euroline knife.

I love giving stuff to people who are getting into cooking! Stuff I know they can use, that is! Like what you’ve done ….

No, it needs to be that expensive $500-800 knife.

Yes, so she can learn the painful lesson of not using a $$$ knife to pry apart frozen food…

Hmmmm… It’s an expensive knife, but the one I have won’t do.

We did talk a bit about caring for it, but I don’t want to freak her out with a bunch of sharpening angst.

Or trying to cut the core out of a cauliflower (ask me how I know :joy:).

I guess some people just can’t get the hang of cooking, hopefully they excel in other areas.

In a recent book and movie (From Scratch??) the Italian chef is courting the young American girl, says: if you stick with me you will eat well every day of your life. Intoxicating!

I have a microwave that I’ve been using for 30 years, still works just fine.

Some people just don’t enjoy cooking. I know a couple. I’m puzzled by it, because it’s not for lack of intelligence and they’re good at lots of other stuff. :woman_shrugging:t3:

What size is the metal mesh pattern you are mentioning here? Something with a tight weave and strong wire? Like a 10 x 10 mesh? Or is it something that is more open and will let larger particles through as well as liquids?

Oh Hai, Bot. You’ve confused chain mail scrubbers with metal mesh patterns.

Have fun.
