Chickpeas and Bean Pastas — Are they good for you?

I consider myself lucky not to have to use any of these sub(stitute) pasta versions, but I know they’re hugely popular with GF folks and those who eschew flour products for other reasons.

Thanks as always for the many gift links you and others post!

I’ve never tried chickpea or lentil pasta as I don’t have any issues with gluten. Until I came back to the US this year, I’d never really tried many chickpea/garbanzo bean dishes besides falafel and hummus (which I love). I have had some South Asian dal curries, though which I liked.

I recently tried these from Trader Joe’s and really like them! Even my picky sister said they were good! The cumin is just barely noticeable (my sister isn’t a fan of cumin…though I am) and they are a great alternative to chips! Have you or other HO members tried them? And if so, what did you think of them?

You’re very welcome! Sharing is caring  — although my gift links are dwindling quickly for September… I believe I only have 2 or 3 left, so I will have to use them sparingly.

I generally despise chickpeas as a main ingredient for dishes, with the exception of good falafel. Flavorless chalkballs to me they are

I do like papadams, but haven’t tried this snack. You could share them here and see if other posters have comments

I agree about chickpeas being rather flavorless and TBH, I find many (though not all) legumes to be that way. I missed falafel and hummus living in rather rural Tokushima where I could only find expensive and not-great quality hummus in one store and falafel nowhere (Tokyo. Osaka and other metropolises are a different story).

And yes, I’ll post about the papadums in the TJ’s link. Thanks again for the links and ALWAYS interesting commentary!

I don’t eat a lot of legume pasta, but I have tried a few brands here and there when they’re on sale. Maybe it’s my prep that is bad, or the brand I tried was at fault, but I never experienced a gummy or mushy legume pasta. Quite the opposite - I would say it tasted more like slightly soft cardboard. Wasn’t a fan! But I think anything doused with great sauce and toppings can make it more palatable.

I have quite a few gift links remaining so let me know if something needs linking

Seconding the notion that these are very good. So good, I haven’t purchased them a third time yet.

Ive tried a few…i suspect I’ve been living with ADD all my life, and protein seems to help my squirrel brain.

Theyre ok…i dont love them, but didnt really feel they are good enough to justify the additional cost, especially when there’s really no reduction in carbs.
